Welcome to the amazing experience of Casa Sauza.
I highly recommend doing the Sauza tour. Especially if you are English speaking - our group of 4 ended up getting a private tour because we needed an English guide and it was fantastic. Earlier that day we toured the Jose Cuervo factory and it was disappointing, especially once we experienced Sauza. At Jose Cuervo the tour groups were huge, there were 3-4 of these huge groups going around at a time and they got jammed up. So we ended up waiting at each ‘station’ and the worst part was that there was very little information given and we could barely hear the tour guide because the group was so huge. Sauza, on the other hand, was amazing! Our tour guide provided so much information about the factory, the process and the history, it was fascinating. He also taught us how to distinguish between adulterated tequila (which can cause blindness and even death) and proper tequila, so that was really cool too. I cannot say enough great thing about Sauza and their factory/tour and their tequila is amazing. Skip the overhyped Jose Cuervo and try out Sauza, you will not be disappointed!!

La Rojena(R) is the distillery of Jose Cuervo(R). We invite you to tour the oldest distillery in Latin America, where you will be able to see the tequila production process first-hand, and enjoy our Hacienda, where you can become a tequila expert with a professional tasting, enjoy a delicious margarita, or buy our products at the best prices.
In the courtyard before entering is a statue of a big crow because cuervo in Spanish means crow. And Joseph in Spanish is Jose so I guess Jose Cuervo could be called Joe Crow in English, right??? This tour starts off with a video subtitled in English and then I joined the English speaking group for the walk thru of the factory. Not only learned about the process of making tequila, also got to make tastings along the way. From seeing agave plants to the barrels to bottles, the tour took about an hour and it was all good. Jose Cuervo has been making tequila here for over 200 years.

It opened its doors in 1985, with the aim of making known the origins of tequila and the history of the Sauza family, who for three generations, from 1873 to 1985, devoted themselves to the production and promotion of this drink. The building that houses it dates from 1820 and since then belongs to the Sauza family; It was built as a house-room and over the years it functioned as an educational center and house of culture, sponsored by Mr. Francisco Javier Sauza. Among the numerous objects and pieces of art exhibited, there is a mural by the master Gabriel Flores, allusive to the development and evolution of tequila, from pre-Hispanic times to the present; all the recognitions granted to the Sauza Tequila from 1873 to 1987, such as the Gold Cup of Good French Taste; paintings by Guillermo Chávez Vega; a rustic kitchen; agricultural implements; memories of the television program Noches Tapatías; photographs of the town of Tequila; archaeological pieces of the region
This museum is near the main plaza of Tequila. It was the family home of the Sauza family who had an early distillery. The house is in good shape with a pleasant, arched courtyard, interesting tilework, and many antiques. A guide will take you through and ours spoke very good English.

We visited this 1649 Parish church and the plaza area, a focal point of this small town’s designation as a UNESCO site. The single nave interior is beautiful with the blue and yellow accents and the colors of the multi wood parquet floors. It’s a quiet haven in an otherwise congested town overflowing with tourists. Parking was not a problem just 4 blocks from the church or follow one of the many men holding the ‘E’ signs for closer pay parking.

The plaza is lively. Tequila carts serve dry at night while Mariachis play. During the day there is also music and vendors.

I enjoyed the Tequila museum because of the beautiful historical building, and because of your knowledgable and amiable guide. We got to see the harvesting process of the blue agave plant, chew on the sweet agave and of course sample some delicious Tequila at the end.

Booked the tour off the street when we arrived in tequila. Bargain with them, you'll get a better price. We had asked for an english soaking guide and we were assigned to Pablo - he was great. Ended up that there were just the 2 of us and Pablo. He was excellent at explaining the entire distillation process and showing us the factory. They are very liberal with their "samples" and have some wonderful tequilas Highly recommend this tour..
