Step back in time at this majestic brewery, nestled in the wooded hillside overlooking the Cottonwood River. Established in 1860, this 150+ year old brewery is nationally renowned for its award winning beers, with varieties to fit everyone’s tastes. Enjoy the beautiful gardens, complete with wandering peacocks. The Visitors Center houses the Museum of Brewing, Gift Shop and a beautiful old-world style Rathskellar Tap Room (open for tours only). Public and private tours available; call for current details. During the summer months, visit the outdoor Bier Garten under the majestic walnut trees and enjoy fine Schell’s beverages. Live music on Sundays only. (open weather permitting). The first weekend of November features a Christmas Open House. Come and experience all that America’s second-oldest, family-owned brewery has to offer.
We love taking guests to Schell's. We have been there several times - watching the peacocks and deer, shopping in the gift shop, having a beer outside with the various bands playing, it is all just fun! Also beautiful at Christmas when all the luminaries are lit through the gardens and up to the house. Everyone should see it at least once (or many times!).

A copper 32-foot statue of a German folk hero.
Very interesting visit and history lesson. Great view of the Minnesota river valley from the top of the Herman Statue

Candies, food, treats, knickknacks, languages, Christmas, it's all here. Delightful store! Aisles are small so beware!

This 45-foot, free-standing, musical clock is one of a rare breed.
Chimes and figures that rotate during the performance. The bells ring on the hour and the performance is a couple times in the afternoon. Located in a nice park with lots of benches.

CLOSED for the season til May 2020. Savor the smells and sights of an 1870s general store as you sample the wares or try a game of checkers. When the railroad bypassed the small town of West Newton, the Harkin Store was forced to close with much of the unsold inventory still on the shelves, where it remains today.

We've camped here many, many times, but this time went for a day trip to enjoy some winter activities. What a treat to arrive and see the trails newly groomed for cross country skiing! We were there early and had the trails basically to ourselves. The park is large enough to enjoy yet small enough that we covered basically all the cross country trails. Then we went for lunch and returned to do the snowshoe trail which is just enough to pretty much tire us out for the rest of the day! The views are pretty, the trails manageable and the location right in New Ulm means there are some great options for food, etc..
