Stopped in for a quick pint and a growler fill and stumbled upon a gem. Todd was a great host, pouring us some samples and pints before we settled on a growler fill of the Belgian strong and a crowler of pale. This brewery sticks with the idea of brewing fewer beers to an amazing standard and it definitely works for me. Each one of the four beers on tap were great stylistically and tasted amazing. Thanks for the great beer! I'm just mad I didn't bring more home.

I planned a day hike and photo op for my weekend in Gold Beach and used Google Maps to try to find the access road to the Old Beach Road. There is a lack of road signs pointing the way to Otter Point State Recreation Area and to the beach, so you have to look for unmarked streets on your left as you drive US 101 north of Gold Beach. i passed Spruce Street on my right and Point S Tire Store. I took the next street on my left and it lead me to Otter Point. The Old Beach Road passes farms and residential areas, so be respectful of private property when hiking in this area. I parked at Otter Point and took pictures of this scenic spot. It was a gloriously sunny day and I made the most of it. I hiked the smooth, flat trails in the Rec. Area and the Pacific Coast Trail (both are marked). You pass through dark tunnels of spruce on sections of the trails and come out on headlands and meadows. Be very careful as you approach the edge of the cliffs, it's a sheer drop to the rocks and ocean below -- about 100 feet or more. This is what makes the place risky for children as they run around, oblivious to the danger. If you must bring children, keep them back from the edge. I did not seek out the trails to the beach, a little further south of where I was. It is possible to walk down to the beach if you are determined, just don't expect signs to point the way. Otter Point is a great place to visit to see wildlife. You can see more of it in summer, but I did see geese flying overhead, seabirds on the shore, and deer. In spring, you can see lots of seabirds nesting on the big rocks (sea stacks) just offshore.

Not much more to say that the tittle didn’t. Large 2 floor bookstore that you could spend hours in. I got a great latte that’s made with the Rogue Roasters coffee.

Patterson Bridge. There is a path to the right of the water. It goes all the way out to the river, under the bridge. There is a sitting area. It is beautiful.

The Prehistoric Gardens are a hidden treasure to be enjoyed by adults and children alike, They have recreated life size dinosaurs in their natural surroundings amazingly well. It's a super interesting tour. We loved it. Check out the gift shop afterwards and chat with the owner who is a lovely lady and very knowledgeable on all things dinosaur! Do not miss it.

Mary D. Hume was a steamer built by R.D. Hume, a pioneer and early businessman, for his Cannery in Gold Beach.It's a historic whale vessel, turned to an ocean tugboat, then a towboat . She worked until 1978, where she was left in this harbor. It's on the National Registry of Historic Places.
