Michigan's Iron Belle Trail - Western Gateway Trail

Michigan's Iron Belle Trail starts (going East) and ends (going West) in Downtown Ironwood at beautiful Depot Park! Enjoy hiking and biking along the miles of trail that run from Ironwood to Bessemer. And, while you are enjoying “mile 0” of the trail, stop into the historic Ironwood Depot Museum or walk a block more and explore historic Aurora street, downtown’s historic main thoroughfare.

What a gem if you are in the Hurley, Ironwood, or Bessemer area. Bridges, wildflowers, birds, benches to sit on, garbage cans, and informational signs and mile markers are among the things you will see in this paved trail.

Munising Mountain Bike Park

Shortly after passing through Downtown Munising, heading west, it's hard to miss Munising’s flagship trail network, Munising Mountain Bike Park. The trailhead offers ample parking, bike repair station and pit toilet facility (That’s considered a luxury in the U.P.). Saddle up and prepare for a gradual climb up the Gateway Loop to access a variety of modern jump and flow trails or skills park.

Something for every rider - beginning starts with hard pack, wide switch backs on the green trail, then a more traditional cut through the purple section, and for experienced riders, a newer section off to the South - not for the timid on the side of some very steep hills. Didn't try the skills area but looked like fun if that's your thing.

The trail to Copper Harbor

A challenging and scenic bike trail leading to Copper Harbor.

Reviewed By M4194XSrobertr - Grand Rapids, United States

Took a day trip to Copper Harbor via route 41 and the colors were just starting to change in early September. Unfortunately most of the places in Copper Harbor were closed for the season. However, if you are interested in collecting various types of rocks or pottery. Stop by Prospectors Paradise on 41 /26 just north of Calumet in the township of Allouez. It is not a tourist trap but a fun adventure and the owners are great to talk with.

City of Escanaba Bike Path

The Escanaba Cross Country Pathway is located within the city limits, yet feels like it is set deep in the wilderness. The peaceful cedar ridges and hardwood hills block out the hustle of the city. The trailhead is located on North 30th Street just north of Charter Communications.

These are very fun MTB trails ranging in difficulty. A little more challenging and work than Swedetown and probably a little less challenging than Copper Harbor.

9. Maywood History Trail

County Road 513, Rapid River, MI 49878 +1 906-789-7862 [email protected] https://www.michigan.org/property/maywood-history-trail

This hard packed easily accessible trail takes the visitor through a 200 year old hemlock forest on the shore of Little Bay de Noc. Because of its geographic setting, the area was a focal point of human activity and includes Native American sites and the foundations of an old resort hotel complex. Abundant historic photographs and oral history quotations on interpretive signs tell the Maywood story.
