Top 9 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Gettysburg, United States

April 22, 2023 Madelene Haan

Gettysburg is steeped in the history of the Civil War. The epic Battle of Gettysburg, in 1863, resulted in more than 50,000 casualties for the North and South combined. It is also, of course, the place where Abraham Lincoln delivered the immortal Gettysburg Address. The town itself is made up of houses, hotels and taverns dating back several centuries, but Gettysburg offers more modern travel and leisure activities, as well, like wine tastings, orchard tours, shopping and golfing.

We had a wonderful, yet short, stay at the Lightner Farmhouse B&B. We weren't here long enough to enjoy everything about this house, IE: a good book on the rocking chairs. However, we slept comfortably and well and had a Wonderful Breakfast! I would recommend staying at this charming B&B.

Lovely place, friendly people!

We had a wonderful experience at the Swope. All the staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay there. It’s bigger than we thought it was inside. The most important for us at any accommodation are the mattresses…and ours was extremely comfortable to sleep on. The room was very clean and the bathroom spacious and updated. Water could have been a tad hotter but it wasn’t a detractor. Parking it close too. The breakfasts were very good and the dinning room was lovely and spacious. We thank all the staff and the owner and very much recommended anyone who loves B&Bs to stay there. It’s a beautiful well centered accommodation close to the heart of town.

We have stayed at the Gaslight Inn 3 times and it never disappoints. The Inn has great breakfasts and the friendship with others around the table is so much fun. The rooms have a wonderful decor and the choices are diverse. On Tuesday, they have a local Gettysburg guide who comes and speaks about things associated with the war. He comes 2 days a week, I think. The location to town and the Battlefield Museum is close. The grounds of this inn are awesome with spring flowers and nice landscaping. A special thanks to the Innkeepers for a great stay

Nice place but no Internet in the room

Reviewed By katekels

Stayed overnight in the Pear Tree Room. It's a nice, very large space with an extra bedroom, sink, fridge, dining table, and a huge 2 sink bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. The whole thing is maybe a bit too large for 2-3 people in fact. Even though it faces the parking garage one street back the enclosed, gated entry and nice covered courtyard makes it plenty private. My average review is because we were surprised to learn upon check-in that there was no Internet available in the room - an oversight by us when we booked by not reading the room descriptions closely. We just assumed Wifi is everywhere these days. Internet is only available in the lounge area in the main building. It's a Revolutionary-era-built place cobbled together over the years and the structures do not play well with Wifi signals. Nevertheless, relaxing in your PJs while streaming a movie on an iPad, checking out what the area/restaurants have to offer, or researching the battlefield online would have been nice. Plus, if TV is your thing, this one is very small for a room of this size. Considering these things I think the room might be a bit pricey but you do have a giant 2 bedroom suite and a courtyard so if that's what you need... The breakfast makes up for the misses. It's superb (get the Quiche -Lorraine). The hosts are very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the area and the building's connection to the battle.

We'd like to add our complete agreement with the many great things said about Sentimental Journey. Such as the thematic charm and warmth of each bedroom. And the friendly and knowledgeable innkeepers Barbara and Steve who had an uncanny knack of materializing whenever you had a question about how to approach seeing the massive Gettysburg battlefield or needed a dining recommendation. And not enough can be said about the well stocked, open 24/7 kitchen. (thank you!). It was a great and all too brief experience. We definitely intend to visit SJ again. One last note. The location is great. You're near everything - all within walking distance.

Spooky Gettysburg Stay

Reviewed By TomG6696

We stayed 3 nights at the Farnsworth Inn. This was our 4th trip and so far we have stayed in 5 of the rooms. This trip was our spookiest to date. Eisenhower room we were both touched and my blanket was tucked between my feet. Lincoln room was pretty quiet 2nd night. Third night was the best. We stayed in the Sara Black room and had the entire property to ourselves as there were no other guests that evening. I caught a nice EVP of a little boy walking and giggling and heard many many noises throughout the night. Overall the experience was amazing as every stay there is. The breakfast is still one of our favorites as everything is delicious. We cannot wait for our next visit to knock a few more rooms off our bucket list.
