Chanced upon this place along the small alley near our BnB. The traditional style & non-touristy feel had us try it without hesitance & it turned out we ate one of the best sushi we have ever had! The freshness of the fish, coupled with the generous mouth-filling portion, every bite is heavenly! We went back 2 days in a roll & would have done it everyday had we stay longer in Beppu. Thumbs up!

As a big fan of reimen (Korean cold noodles) I knew had to come this place which is very popular with locals though not especially close to anything else. If you look up this restaurant on Google Maps, it will have a weird name like “hand base of the cold noodle” or something. I waited 30 minutes after writing my name on the list at the door and ordered the standard reimen dish. They have many other kinds of dishes as well, most of them Chinese (even though reimen is originally a Korean dish). The reimen doesn’t taste anything like real reimen in Korea or even reimen at other shops in Japan. That’s not a bad thing though! The noodles are hand-made and very chewy and the char siew tangy and robust from the vineyards broth. It’s the perfect dish to cool he body down after a day soaking in hot springs.

we had googled about yakiniku restaurants for lunch, and found wasaku, which was just few minutes walk from yufuin eki (station) along the way to lake kinrinko. restaurant was empty & we were the only lunch customer throughout. it was a nice setting on the usual tatami & with very powerful exhaust suction. the kuroge wagyu karubi set (i think 1640yen+8%tax) was very good. the wagyu + chicken set was 1760yen+8%. chicken seems very popular in many parts of japan for both shabu shabu & yakiniku, not sure why. we found it tough & nothing special. the plain wagyu set was better as it had 7 pieces whereas the combo set had 4 or maybe 5pieces. the set came with the usual salad, gohan with pickles, miso soup, & sauce dip for the yakiniku. we thoroughly enjoyed this first restaurant meal on this kyushu trip. ^^ the 2 sets came to about 3672yen or S$36++, a very good deal compared with wagyu yakiniku in Singapore, or even just australian or NZ beef cuts. see my full reviews & photos at http://chefquak.com/2015/02/02/great-wagyu-yakiniku-yufuin-wasaku-kyushu-trip-on-25jan2015/

The restaurant was very close to the Beppu Station, only a 10-minute walk away.Along the street in front of the train station, there were tens of restaurant, many of them were nearly empty during weekdays. However, Robata Jin was fully-seated every day, right after 17:00, when it opened.I tried several dishes, all of which tasted good. My personal favorite was the skewers: fresh and delicately seasoned.I ordered some sashimi, skewers, tango (a local dish with wider noodles and miso) and a grilled eggplant. The total cost was just 2,730 yen.

I think this is the best place to eat sushi in this prefecture. The fish is cut big size and the Shari( Rice ) is good hardness. My favorite "Neta" are "Salmon" and "Akagai"!! you should try!

Had dinner with the family on a weekend night. The restaurant was packed, mostly with locals, but the queue moved quite quickly. Food quality was excellent, with very fresh sashimi and delicious hotpot set meals offered. Service was fast and efficient. Price for the meal was very reasonable, which might explain its popularity. The restaurant has a small carpark next to it, where patrons can park for free. But it is small, with only about 5-6 lots. Paid parking is available close by as well.

Simple menu with basically 3 choices - beef (highly recommended), chicken and eel. Comes in a set with amazing side dishes and different sauces of which the preserved barley one and the spicy yuzu one were my favourites. These really enhanced the flavour of the perfect beef slices that were served on fragrant rice in a hot pot. The restaurant was full at 6pm on a week night so reservations are a must to ensure you get a seat. Prices are reasonable and service is no frills fast.

Went to Hajime Sushi for dinner and ordered the sushi platter. All I could say is WOW! The seafood is fresh! I guess that explains why the restaurant is packed and even the Japanese made reservations before coming. We were lucky to get seats. ❤️
