Delicious home made Chinese restaurant
Great food and service! The prices are reasonable especially for lunch!

This place was packed when we got there, but we were quickly seated, as it is fairly large. There are a lot of choices on the menu, which can make it tough to choose, but they give you a choice of "hot" spice from 1-10. My husband likes hot, but he was just fine with 4--word to the wise.My pork with mint leaves curry wasn't a strong sauce, but was still slightly spicy at a 1 level. All the meals came quickly. Service is a bit impersonal, I guess because they are so busy. But it was good, ample food at a moderate price--$59 for 4 meals, with 2 Thai Teas included at $3.95 each.

We ordered the Samplers Starter to get an idea of what types of foods we would do well to order on subsequent visits. One order serves two. It is similar to the PoPo Platter in Chinese restaurants. We were not disappointed. Three sauces came on a long dish next to the items they were to be used on. All the samples and especially the chicken satay with its peanut sauce were delicious. To complete our meal, we ordered a Hot Pot of Tom Khar soup. The soup was served in a container with a flame coming out of a center funnel that kept the soup warm. The coconut-chicken-lime broth made a perfect base for the vegetables and sliced meat. The platter and soup were enough to satisfy our hunger so we didnât order an entree as we had intended. The list of entrees look great, so we will be returning soon. Excellent service!

W Live in the neighborhood so we decided to try this restaurant on a Groupon. Our initial disappointment came when we realized all the crab used in the Sushi was krab, I.e. Imitation crabmeat. After looking over the menu, we de decided to try a variety of dishes, shrimp tempura, teriyaki salmon bowl and rainbow roll sushi. While fresh, nothing was particularly well seasoned. The waiter did as little as he could to get by. Sorry, but there are too many better restaurants. We won't be back.

We are New Yorkers at heart.. Chinese is our comfort food and we are very very picky... Have been going to DH for 15? years, it has only gotten better...They have 2 menus, one for original Shanghai cuisine, the other for American-style. Terrific, expansive menu, excellent quality, very large portions, attentive service. Pricing is surprising on the low side for Del Mar. Dining on site is basic, comfy, banquettes, limited parking in front. Double-check your to-go orders. For sure worth your time...maybe a take-out to take to the beach for a sunset?? Just saying...You're welcome :)

This place regularly gets voted âBest Vietnamese Restaurant in San Diegoâ and I understand why in many ways: itâs attractive, intimate, comfortable, large menu, nice service and good parking. My scallops with vegetable luncheon looked great and included a nice seafood soup, salad, fried rice with eggs and other goodies in it, a couple fried wontons with dipping sauce, plus the scallops and veggies. I just wish the main item had had more flavor as I kept wishing for soy sauce, hot sauce, or something to zip up the taste. I kinda think that if this meal had actually been served in Vietnam that it would have been a lot zippier and they just ratcheted down the flavor here because they think Americans canât handle it. Frankly, Iâm not someone who can take much of a spicy sauce so if I want more flavor, I think most everyone would. Next time Iâll ask them to add more flavor or else bring me a bottle of sauce. Apart from that, itâs a nice place that Iâd be happy to return to, especially if they can zip up the flavor.

Shimbashi Izakaya, with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, is located on the Market Level at the Del Mar Plaza. We offer an extensive seasonal menu, fresh sushi and sashimi, a wide selection of sake and Japanese beer. With our tapas-style Japanese menu,
Colleagues and I enjoyed a nice meal at Shimbashi Izakaya. As some were not hard core sushi/shashimi eaters, this was a good choice. The menu offered a variety of Japanese sushi options, but also some non traditional alternatives. There was a menu with pictures to aid your choices as is common in Japan. Everyoneâs meal was very good and so was our service. We ate outside and our view of the pacific was quite nice too. Prices were somewhat high as can be expected with this cuisine in the USA matched with Del Mar. Sake options were numerous, but that too was expensive. I would recommend Shimbashi Izakaya to anyone who enjoys Japanese cuisine with a view, but be prepared to pay for it.

Iâd say the noodle dishes are best. The Tam Kah soup is delicious. You need to have reservations which you make the old fashioned way, by calling the restaurant directly; they note it on a sheet of paper. Very scientific, but it works for them. I stopped in for lunch recently by myself, glad I had some cash, as credit cards are only taken over $10. My lunch with chicken as protein was $8.95 including tax.

I expect good if not great Asian food in California. However, while this restaurant was just fine, it wasnât any better than many of the chinese restaurants in mid sized towns in Michigan. The soup dumplings were pretty good but I have had better (Joeâs Shanghai in NYC). The potstickers were dry. The kung pao chicken was very good. The special fried rice was just okay. Ditto the beef and broccoli. We love dining out in Del Mar but I want to look for better food. For example, Simalan in Solana Beach.
