In the magnificent milieu, Art museum Gösta shows contemporary art, masters of the Golden age and interesting wood architecture. Also sculpture park and island. Restaurant Gösta at the museum serves pure tastes. Serlachius bus: Tampere - Mänttä - Tampere direct to the museums.
A kind of a hidden gem - you wouldnt expect such a small place house such a rich collection. Given ties to industrial history and papermills, its safe to say this museum is much better funded and curated than most museums in relatively remote small villages. You can catch samples from Finnish masters (like Gallen-Kallela, Edefelt and Schjerfbeck) and also contemporary art in more frequently changing exhibitions. Beautifull location is a bonus. You should also see their other museum, i think one ticket gives you entrance to both. Sadly we were short on time, so we had to do with just this little piece of magic.

Gustaf is a storytelling museum in the former head office of a paper combine. Impressive main exhibition Paper Devil takes you through a route of eight dramatized scenes depicting the colourful life of a paper industry pioneer, Gustaf Adolf Serlachius. Serlachius bus: Tampere - Mänttä - Tampere direct to the museums.
The old headquarters of Serlachius mill shows how important these early wood processing plants were to the country. The patron ruled the community, enormous energy was spent on small details and there was no lack of money. The "green gold" built these empires.

Tampere Art Museum presents changing exhibitions of contemporary art and themes in art history. Both Finnish and international art. Wall texts are also in English. Check the current exhibitions on the museum's website.
The drawings of Tove Jansson made me feel proud over Tove and the great Fenno-Swedish geniuses like Helene Schjerfbeck, Jean Sibelius, Hugo Simberg, Tove Jansson and Alvar Aalto. Taking pictures was sadly strictly forbidden in this museum, no doubt following orders from Moomin Characters Inc in Helsinki.
