One of those lovely places where you can find a choice of things to do. Great on a rainy day, Oyster allsorts is a cafe with a small museum, or collection of local photos and artefacts, and also a shop with attractive local crafts and cards to buy. It has a lounge-sized bathroom, always a bonus when you can get in and out without bruising your knees. They were a bit overwhelmed by a party of thirteen when we arrived so we left, looking for another open cafe. But there wasn't one.

Entry is by donation. The Museum is housed in a disused and upgraded school building. The Museum tells the historical story of the area from the early Whalers, goldmining, fishing, sawmilling, stone quarrying to present day farming. It also has an interesting farm machinery display. A good display of historically relevant photographs and genealogy research available upon request.
Stopped in to have a look at what is a rural museum showing the history of the region. Lovely lady on the desk who told us that it was free but they'd appreciate a donation which we duly supplied. The museum is full of artifacts relating to families, industry, and daily life going back to the 1800's. There's a ton of photos, documents and so on all looking fairly well preserved. It was a fascinating place and well worth a visit. We recommend a stop to check it out - also the outbuildings which include a jail cell.

Exceptionally helpful and friendly staff, who wished to ensure I knew options for Gore and my future travel through Southland without being too pushy. A good stop for free AA maps. Newly built building, airy and bright. There is a wooden tent for children to play in, lots of seating (probably a bit low for the elderly to get out of without help). Wheelchair accessible.

We made a couple of visits to the DoC office and purchased some maps/gifts and brochures. Friendly staff writer willing to share their knowledge and love of the area. Interesting displays. Oh, and the [outside] toilets were helpful too!

The information here for trampers or tourists is easy to obtain. Nice souvenirs for the island itself.

It is hard to find the right superlatives. We were fortunate to visit the park on a day when there were only occasional showers with enough sun to see the mountain peaks, the numerous waterfalls and the incredible fjords. Milford Sound is the most famous but Doubtful Sound and Dusky Sound are must sees. This is a photographer's delight.

We visited the i-SITE in Te Anau as we werent sure what boat ride to do for Milford Sound, the lady who helped us was very helpful and informative and we were very happy with our selection of boat ride for Milford, you can also pay at the i-SITES for any activities or trips you wish to do. There are many brochures in the i-SITE to help you during your stay in New Zealand. Highly recommend visiting if you need help with anything.
