Top 8 Transportation in French Quarter, Louisiana (LA)

January 11, 2022 Vivienne Hutton

Laissez les bons temps rouler! In New Orleans the good times are perpetually rolling down Bourbon Street, which, thanks to the city’s annual Mardi Gras celebration, has quite a party animal reputation. Once you’ve soaked up the scenery of the historic French Quarter, tour the elegant Garden District and meet the colorful characters of Frenchmen Street. Experience the city's supernatural vibe at the Voodoo Museum or by taking a guided ghost or vampire tour through taverns, alleyways, and cemeteries.

See the city skyline from the Mississippi River for free. Nothing fancy, but kids are sure to love the pelicans and photographers will love the sights on the way to historic Algiers.

I wanted to take a moment to write a post about the area that we're staying in during our visit to NOLA. Our home away from home has been in Algiers Point. It's a historic area that is one of the oldest neighborhoods in New Orleans (currently celebrating it's 300th birthday). There are beautiful houses, a close knit community where people treat you like family, and sweeping views of the city. It's also one of the safest neighborhoods in NOLA. This area mainly relies on tourism for its economy. Sadly, the ferry to/from downtown has been down for a month and a half. There are two new ferrys, but they haven't been able to clear coast guard inspection. There's a terminal to terminal shuttle, but that doesn't attract tourists like the ferry does. Anyone out there planning a trip to NOLA...do not let a lack of the ferry running dissuade you from visiting the area. The shuttle is reliable, and this area shouldn't be missed. Also consider staying in the area. We stayed at an airbnb that cost less than a hotel room, but has all the comforts of home. It's quiet, but with a few local bars one can still have a great night out. There are some cafes with delicious coffee, some spot on Italian food, a fitness trail along the Mississippi...the list goes on!
