Scenic High Falls

Reviewed By Jay_and_Rita - Ottawa, Canada

These are seriously wide falls with a crest of 125 feet and a height of 75 feet. The falls are easy to get to from Highway 17. Take the 1.5 mile gravel road to the bottom of the falls and there is an easy path from there (on the right hand side) to get to the top of the falls. If you are in the area or haven’t been to large falls for a while, you will likely find that a visit here is a pleasant experience. However, I agree that this isn’t a must-see. Free to visit. Washroom onsite.

Wawa Goose Statue

Reviewed By Wild_Radek - Toronto, Canada

You probably just came from taking a picture with the big ‘nickel’, or the Holstein, couldn’t find Paul Bunyan, the bison or big Joe or even the polar bear so here you are....An icon that you just have to photo bomb into your selfie :)
There are actually 3 big geese in town so get’em all while you’re there.
Check it out... somebody actually thought they were real ....there are bullet holes in one of the geese (or maybe alcohol was involved)
Now get a move on.... Kenora awaits... they have a big Muskie :). As you pass Terrance Bay check to see if the annual lake Surfing competition is on it’s a hoot.

Young's General Store

Reviewed By Sharon F - Miamisburg, Ohio

Good place to stop and stretch your feet for awhile. You can get your gas pumped if you need some or use the outdoor potties. Lots of stuffed animals to see. Lots of cool souvenirs inside and a little of everything for everybody. T shirts are kind of pricey but they have a great selection. Also some snacks and a small selection of candy along with ice cream cones you can get.

Sandy Beach

Reviewed By torontojudy - Toronto

There is a boardwalk from the parking lot to the beach. It was windy and cold when we were there, but it was fascinating IF you have any interest in the Canadian artists called the Group of Seven. A.Y. Jackson painted here and they even have a plastic seat that looks like his canvas seat with a picture of one of his paintings. The scenery is magnificent -- rocks, pine trees and very blue water. It is a beach and I suppose if you are the hearty type, you might swim there in the summer. But, Lake Superior is pretty far north and the water is very cold!

Government Dock Beach

Reviewed By lakwatsera2014 - East Granby, Connecticut

It was a pleasant warm day (72f and humid). Locals only beach. Take a walk along the coarse sand and climb up the flat rocks that jut out to lake superior. Be careful with the slippery rocks.
There's a secluded inland lagoon where campers pitch tent. Be respectful of campers.
If you want privacy explore this area of saws. Go further north to lay out on a sandy beach (also locals only).

Naturally Superior Adventures - Paddling Adventures

Reviewed By REJ810 - San Francisco, California

Just finished the 5-day musical voyageur canoe trip from Rossport to Red Rock with Ian Tamblyn, who is almost as iconic an institution as the canoe to Canadians! Our NSA guides, Alex and Merinda, were fantastic - anticipating needs, ensuring safety, bringing us in on decisions, pointing out historical, geographical, and nautical places of interest. We had 3.5 days of hard into-the-wind paddling, then Ian and Alex sailed us into Red Rock for the folk festival. The 12 of us, arriving as strangers and leaving as friends, worked together to make this a great trip. Music, campfires and repartee were terrific. The hike up from CPR dock spectacular. Herons, falcons, bald eagles, golden eagles and mergansers all added great pleasure as did the wildflowers. Days later I find myself gently rolling to sleep.

Michipicoten Post Provincial Park

Reviewed By GloriousLakeSuperior - Northwestern Ontario

The Post Park is stunningly beautiful and rarely has more than one or two small groups of three or four at a time visiting the huge expanse of pristine Lake Superior Beach. At one end of the beach, there is black sand and cove protected swimming areas. Everyone has small campfires and the setting sun is really something to see from this beach. The only issue is the road is not managed and there is difficulty getting access to the Park. You should check with the Lake Superior Park Office before making a special trip .
