The bike riding on this trail was quite an achievement for a novice rider, such as myself. I must admit I found it challenging in spots, but kept going - and now, at home, I feel very proud of myself. Nick from Of The Rails, was a fabulous guide and very knowlegable about everything !He always checked up on us, whilst on the ride, he had plenty of water and sun block in his van. At night he took us to some enjoyable dinner venues, and the curling event was a lot of fun. I will eagerly watch the winter olympics, now I am a curling expert. Our accommodation was excellent, quiet, clean and just like home. Ranfurly is a lovely town and community. Judy took such good care of us, in our lodgings, such a beautiful lady, we all loved her and didn't want to say goodbye.

This was a last minute add on to our Otago Rail Trail experience. A surprise for my son's 11th birthday. It did not disappoint. Nigel is clearly passionate about his dogs and his enthusiasm runs over. We enjoyed the background story followed by the opportunity to pat & interact with the dogs. Nigel was happy for us to stay as long as we wanted and we had no sense of this being a commercial venture. If doing the Otago Rail trail I would suggest planning ahead for this. There is a local transport operator who can assist. Thanks Nigel & Rose for sharing your beautiful dogs with us. Next time we will be back to sled.

Thank you Bek, for all your planning for what was a very special Rail Trail experience. The Bikes were great, and all the accommodation and dining experiences were memorable. We also really appreciated your contacting us to check on how we were going when there were adverse weather events. Also your willingness to literally go the extra mile, or kilometre, when it looked like we would have transport difficulties following the ride's completion was most appreciated. Thoroughly recommended.

George picked us up off the Otago Rail Trail for side trip to St Bathans and Cambrian. As a local, George had not only all the history of the area but also lots of anecdotes and stories about local people and events. He took us to Cambrian and introduced us to a local man, which was a real unexpected highlight, as well as to the more famous St Bathans with its spectacular Blue Lake and local historic pub. We didn't feel rushed at any time, George was a font of knowledge ad good company. Highly recommended.

Ranfurly Swimming Pool is an indoor 30 metre pool and a separate toddlers pool • Open late November until early April • Monday to Friday 3pm to 8pm • Weekends and school holidays 1.30pm to 8pm
The pool isn't too deep but it's good for young children as there is a lot to do. Theres a toddler pool that has plenty of toys for the younger ones and the big pool has inflatables that the kids love to play with. It's not too expensive as the children can stay there all day and leave to get food and come back without having to pay extra which is a plus. All in all, a good wee pool to visit!
