Stopped here on our way out of Baraga and what a beautiful little gem! It's a short walk down to the falls and great place to take some awesome pics.

Even though we are not overly religious this was a nice, serene place to stop. Make sure you try the homemade ice cream made by the good nun that oversees the memorial.

My boyfriend and I were driving on our way down from Houghton, Michigan when we passed by Pete's Petting Zoo and I insisted we make a stop - due to my love for animals and zoos. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of animals they had! All the enclosures for the animals looked big enough and we found some very exotic animals there such as llamas, emus and pygmy goats. We were also pleasantly surprised with the fact that the petting zoo is basically free. They accept donations in little boxes around the enclosure. What made it personal was this one nice woman who took care of the animals and talked to us about the llamas and you can tell she really cared for them. This petting zoo might not be the newest or most well kept, but you can tell the animals really are loved and cared for.

Stopped here and had a picnic on our way to the waterfalls. There was a covered shelter with picnic tables which was perfect because it was misting out. We were overlooking the bay.
There is swimming at your own risk, playgrounds, benches and a marina. Nice place to stop and stretch your legs! Within walking distance there is a small waterfall.

I loved my stay at Baraga State Park. The park is clean and well maintained and is in close proximity to two small towns for food and supplies. There are a number of really beautiful attractions in that area of Michigan. Canyon Falls is gorgeous and only 10 minutes away. If you go the last week of July, take Christmas decorations. They celebrate Christmas in July there and it is very festive. I would recommend that you select a campsite toward the back of the campground. It is located right on Highway 41 and traffic noise can be considerable - especially in a tent right next to the road, as I was.

If you make the trip to Mount Arvon, Michigan's highest natural peak (1,971 feet), be prepared to take a 4-wheel drive vehicle with you.
The trip from L'Anse Township to Mount Arvon takes roughly 30 minutes - the last several miles include guiding your vehicle up steep grades, one lane roads that are dirt and gravel. When we bagged Michigan's highest peak in July 2016, there were several parts of the old road that were riddled with pot holes and wash outs. I did throw the SUV into four wheel drive on the ascent.
At the top is a small turn around point and a grassy area that might accommodate parking for 3-4 cars. We were there at 1 p.m. on a warm Saturday afternoon and head the entire peak to ourselves until another couple arrived.
There is one good lookout from Mount Arvon, and it appears there is a conservation group attempting to make improvements to the area, which includes a picnic table and fire ring at the peak. It would be wonderful if the group could add a hiking trail and trailhead from one of the gravel roads below the peak - so hikers could access the top without have to drive the distance.

Alberta was a model sawmill town designed by Henry Ford.
Alberta has lots to offer, stories of Henry Ford's saw mill, you can tour it and learn so much you never knew about the man and his inventions. The grounds offer hiking trails and the lake has great big trout. I saw a bull moose cross the road right by the museum a few years back,
