Drove to the beach and the taverna booked us a taxi to the start. Went from entrance B.
The B route down to the gorge itself was beautiful and full of spring flowers and some amazing "stink Lily's " the striking purple flowers which Smell a bit like rotting flesh. Great views and you go down of the high up cemetery
Walk itself along the bottom is easy with a few boulders to climb over.
Families could easily do this. With sensible shoes not flip flops and water.
Recommend driving back over the old road over the top of the gorge which we managed in a small hire car with automatic gears. It's a loose gravel road but solid under the wheels. Views are stunning and you get to look down onto the gorge.

Gone Surfing is a windsurfing center at Crete island on Kouremenos beach, close to Palekastro village. Here you can rent top windsurfing equipment and learn to windsurf safely by our certified instructors. Kouremenos is well known as one the most wind certain Beaches in the world during the summer months.
Gone Surfing is a great place for windsurfing. The spot conditions are just great and what is moreover important the staff is fantastic. Hospitality, familiy atmosphere and a great approach is something really unique these days and you will get all of it from Gone Surfing Team. Once again big thanks for a great week.

In Kato Zakros you will find a large and two smaller spotless Beaches with pebbles and sand. Here you will find the peace and relaxation you ask for relaxing and quality vacation!
Fabulous little beach with water at least ten shades of blue and crystal clear. Most of the beachside tavernas offer loungers and umbrellas free if you have dined. Works perfectly!

Went here for a visit while on a university field trip for classical studies. The palace is well excavated and much of it is easy to see and wonder through. There are only a few areas roped off so it is great to walk through the various rooms and the view from the top of the site is amazing. The site itself is not far from the gorge of the dead. Highly recommend going

We've ordered just a greek coffe and a beer and get a lot of complements such as nuts, salt cucumber and chips.
The music and the mood were just perfect.
Nobody around, just spectacular landscape.

Canyon Chochlakies is small and easily passable in all conditions and seasons. The gorge starts from Chochlakies village and ends at lovely deserted beach Karoumes. Overall length is 1.5 km. It's green rocky landscape with a brook to accompany you throughout the route.
We have walked Chochlakies Gorge three times in the past few years and found something new and interesting to see each time. Buzzards and sometimes eagles circle above the steep walls of the gorge; goats with bells on their collars scramble up the near vertical cliffs; and little piles of rocks and stones left by other walkers guide you down the stream bed. It's an easy walk -- about one hour and fifteen minutes from the car park by the church until you reach the wide sweep of Karoumes beach. The swimming here is good on a calm day, although it can sometimes be very rough and dangerous. The gorge itself has been completely dry this summer, but in the winter and spring after heavy rain the water can be too deep and fast flowing to walk it in safety.

From the settlement Chochlakies , located 8 km south of Palekastro and 26 km from Sitia , begins a fantastic , affordable canyon that after 1.5 hour walk ends at the clean and picturesque bay Karoumes . You can reach the most isolated beach in eastern Crete through the gorge or boat from Kato Zakros and Kouremenos .
You have to walk through Chochlakies Gorge or along the E4 coast path to get here, but it's worth it. A big, wide shingle beach with good swimming on calm days. There are a few trees for shade and the surrounding salt flats are an interesting feature if you want to explore.
