If you are making the journey to Zhuge or Daciyun then this is a worthwhile village to squeeze into your itinerary. (Xinye Ancient Village) Very authentic with a long history. Great place for lunch with a few 'farmhouse' restaurants and the surrounding fields are worthy of a stroll too. During our visit the rice was heavy with seed and the cotton in bud. Zhuge is growing in popularity with the local tourism market since I first visited it a couple of years ago but Xinye is still quiet and largely undiscovered. Apart from the locals we had the place to ourselves.

While on an overnight excursion to Zhuge we happened upon this site quite by accident. (Pulled into a service station and saw a huge billboard advertising it.) We decided to make a quick visit which meant we didn't see the entire site so we have to go back again and explore fully. It is similar to the Hanging Temple in Shanxi although not so old or original I suspect. It is known by various names from what I gather (Daiji, South Xuan Kong) and even with post-visit research I have been unable to find out how old or close to original the actual site is. Compared to the predominantly wooden Shanxi Hanging Temple it consists of more concrete formwork and is a little less 'hanging' and a little more 'nestled in'. It has likely been developed from an original smaller structure and now has a cable car in place to take you up the 500+ metres. The walk takes you through the hanging temple structure, a large golden buddha, a lake, further cliff hugging structures which are occupied my monks, the standing buddha, and a waterfall. We only made it as far as the first temple and the golden buddha but weather permitting this still affords you a good view of the entire site except the waterfall. The entry is 80rmb, cable car up is 50 and down is 40. Next time I would allow 3 hours and take the cable car up and then walk the entire circuit down.

This #1 site is in fact the same place as rated #2 in Jiande. Not much available in English on this site and I have been unable to date it. This review is the same as my review of the #2 - Jiande Daci Scenic Area.
