The museum, 12 miles from Haskovo, is very small but very informative. The guide spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable. The displays are bilingual, in Bulgarian/English, so the tour just pointed out the highlights and lasted maybe 20 minutes. Then I had time to read about any facet of Thracian history that interested me. The replica of the tomb is quite nice, tho the entrance and second door are 4' at most. The original tomb is right behind the museum but sealed to preserve the frescoes. An hour at the museum is plenty and if driving from Haskovo, allow 2 - 2 1/2 hours total. A very enjoyable outing.

If you happen to be around Svilengrad, to stop by the village of Mezek to see the thracian tomb. Very interesting tour in this tomb, very curious story of how it was discovered. No drawings or anything, but lots of remnants from religious ceremonies were found here and they are now exposed in museums. There was a huge 170 kg bronze pig discovered on the site by gold-seekers, unfortunately they damaged the legs of the pig but otherwise it can be seen in Istanbul historical museum (the tomb was discovered while this region of Bulgaria was under Turkish rule). Do ask for a guided tour, not sure if there's one in English but the guide tells a great story and I almost dived into the whole story.
There are also some street art paintings on the entry alley that are expected to take you to the old Thracian times. Not very impressed, though it was something interesting.
Great nature around, so awesome for a picnic too. Lovely place and sight!

We went there with a group of friends on Sunday. We have tasted excellent Bulgarian wines. Our guide was speaking english clearly. She told us sadly Katarzyna story and where/why this name comes from. We have seen their storage area and storage tanks. It was amazing experience for all of us. We have also purchased Katarzyna wines. I advise everybody who like wine to go there
Villa Bassarea is a boutique wine cellar with different approach to wine making, situated in the southern part of the Thracian Lowland, in the town of Harmanli, just eight kilometres from the ancient Roman road Via Diagonalis. We welcome you to visit our wine cellar and discover the Bulgarian local grapes such as Dimyat and Mavrud and experience the local culture and history.
