a 450-acre park and nature preserve with a 7 mile trail system for hiking and cross-country skiing offering excellent viewing of a variety of native wildlife species and habitats, as well as a shelter for both summer and winter use. On the rolling terrain of the preserve are to be found prairies, savanna, woodlands, a 25 acre lake, a marsh, ponds, and wildlife plantings.
This place is great. I know go here a couple times a week. Nice trail variety for central Iowa, wildlife present as well.

The Merchants National Bank building is one of the eight Midwestern "jewel-box" banks designed by Louis Sullivan, legendary American architect and mentor of Frank Lloyd Wright. The bank was constructed in 1914 for $60,000 and remained a bank until 1999. It now houses the Grinnell Area Chamber of Commerce and Grinnell Visitor Center. The interior of the bank is open for public viewing Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM. Weekend hours may vary, so please call ahead prior to visiting on Saturday and/or Sunday.
We have been trying to visit as many of Louis Sullivan’s jewel box banks as possible- this one is a gem. Now it acts as a visitors center for the city of Grinnell. No fee to visit and photos are allowed- we wandered around freely and enjoyed the displays talking about the history of the building. Definitely worth a visit- check out Grinnell campus while you are here.

Came in out of the cold to a warm seating area like a waiting room with video screens and magazines. There a couple of women were waiting for their husbands while sipping free beverages from the cappuccino/espresso/hot chocolate dispenser. There was also a free soda dispenser (like a nice break room). The retail shop is amazing with an assortment on display. The really great thing is the giant warehouse attached allows you to order items to see and touch, before you purchase. And they have no qualms about opening the packages, even if its to compare items. Most places wont open unless you plan on buying. Extremely informed employees and so nice.
