I have read all the reviews and agree with most. The chicken, turkey, hens are excellent. We have ruined our families ability to enjoy chicken dishes in even the best restaurants in NY. Regardless of the preparation in 5 star restaurants, the actual meat is very rarely as good as Makinajian birds. The brother-sister who run the place are hard workers, but often they are shy and might appear aloof. The woman who runs the register, not a family member is down right rude. Unfortunately, she is the face of the business regardless of her employee status. I spend close to $12k a year in this establishment, and except for her typical bark "you need eggs", there's very little conversation. Not even a thank you when you're signing a $400+ credit card receipt. I think their business could double with just a little organization or marketing. They need a good web page with recipe suggestions, or a 'community' bulletin picture board. R+S Meats in Huntington has a wonderful website THE BUTCHERS WIFE. Also - why not deliver to good customers once a week? It seems like they wont spend a dime to improve what they have going OR they aren't interested in growing the business. I'm not being sarcastic, they have plenty of work to do, they do everything with scrupulous integrity, growth might dilute their products integrity. Over the years I've noted their dairy refrigeration system is not cold enough and twice I got spoiled dairy. Keep in mind, that's two examples and I buy a lot of Makinajian food. Have a pot pie EVEN IF YOU DONT LIKE THEM ..... these are great. They are full of chunks of top rate meat and vegetables, not fatty gravy. Last comment - the Turkeys are crazy expensive and worth every single penny. Their cooking instructions are included in your bird bag - FOLLOW them. Real turkeys dont get cooked as looking as crappy supermarket birds filled with saline and other chemistry. I have pre-ordered a large and a small for every holiday, but I ask them to butterfly the second bird removing the majority of the bones. This is called SPATENCOCK. Its particularly handy to have a bird done this way to increase the meat needed without buying a giant bird. The butterfly bird allows you to carve up the first round of Thanksgiving protien needed while still being able to put a PRESENTATION Bird on the table. Or, ask Nick (well in advance) to completely debone a bird, and pound the meat out. Roll the meat in a log around your dressing and vegetable. You can then slice delicious medallions of an entire meal. Beware .... the turkey pick up at Makinajian is hectic and archaic, and they are at their RUDEST. If only they'd hire delivery during that week, they could get a lot of birds out of their store without the "chilly" attitude.
