Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary

Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary is a reptile rescue facility that is open to the public. We are home to hundreds of reptiles who have come to us through adoption, donation, rescue, or from other institutions. We have worked with local and state authorities with animal control needs and we also work with schools and universities with educational programs and internships. No animals are bought, sold, or traded at the Alligator Sanctuary. We provide a comfortable home and care for these animals for the rest of their lives.

This was such a fun place to visit. We have been doing a lot of things outside during Covid and this was perfect. There were several staff members out mingling with visitors and they obviously love their jobs and the animals. It was fantastic seeing the alligator up close. The alligator show was really good. Who knew that alligators can do tricks and learn their names. Perfect for a half-day outing. Also, our daughter has a medical stroller and could see most of the animals easily.

Binder Park Zoo

This was a great visit. We took our grandkids ages 11 and 9, along with 5of their friends. Plenty to see. Plenty to do. Feed animals, ride a train, ride over to Africa exhibit on a tram. The Africa exhibit is large with free roaming animals. Feeding the giraffe of course was special. Price is in line with other attractions of this kind. We spent about 4 hours total, with lunch. Zoo is very clean and not so large that you can't work your way around.

Historic, two story building that houses real props used by famous magicians. Lots of posters and bits of acts from years gone by. Highlight was seeing the actual custom milk can Houdini would get locked inside. Nothing here is "replica." (Previous to COVID, they had local people doing magic performances on Saturdays, but that is currently on hold.) We enjoyed looking at all the neat artifacts. Since most of the items cannot be handled, would not suggest taking young kids here. Recommend an hour or so to see most items.

Historic Bridge Park

Reviewed By FrankD834 - South Bend, United States

This was my destination while on a fall color road trip. This was a photograph day and this park is an excellent place to get the camera out and walk around. I believe there are 5 historic bridges, including the one you drive under when entering the park. You climb up some stone steps to get to that one. There is also a tunnel, a creek that runs under most of the bridges, an interesting sculpture, a nice children's playground, picnic area, and boat launch area. You can also count the I-94 bridge over the river and the modern bridge at the boat launch if you'd like. There is also a wooden bridge you drive over at the edge of the parking lot. Lots of bridges! The fall color was peaking the day I was there and it made for some excellent pictures. Worth a stop, especially if you are into history.

Fascinating wood carvings at Leila Arboretum in Battle Creek, Michigan. A few years ago 44 ash trees succumbed to a beetle. Artist in an art contest created fantastic wood sculptures - Big Foot, Moose with a back pack, a castle, fantasy creatures, space, and more. Well worth a stop and the price is right - FREE.
