This is a great, if underpublicized place to experience wildlife if you have already done some of the more classic places in Brazil like the Pantanal or the Amazon. It is famous for birdlife, and it has lots of birds of many different kinds (parrots, toucans, hummingbirds, trogons, hawks, and many others), but we also saw mammals (Giant Anteater is practically guaranteed - we saw them every day, Maned wolf is much harder but possible, Pampas Deer, skunks, fox), reptiles (venomous snakes, lizards), and butterflies and other interesting insects. We hired Mariana Vabo as our guide and she was amazing - really helped us find wildlife and could identify everything.

Roça da Cidade is a farm that produces Minas Artesanal Cheese from Serra da Canastra and has been selling artisanal cheeses for over twenty years. Owned by João Carlos Leite and family, the farm is located in the municipality of São Roque de Minas, at the foot of the Serra da Canastra, which provides exceptional conditions for cheese production and maturation, with unique characteristics and flavors. Our cheeses are produced using raw milk, milked daily from healthy and well-fed cows, from our own herd and respecting the four traditional ingredients - milk, rennet, “pingo” and salt, following the recipe of our ancestors, enhanced by hygiene techniques and good manufacturing practices to ensure a high quality product. Everything is done with calm, affection and passion, valuing our culture, history and tradition, with Geographical Indication protected by law since 2012.
