Originally a Moorish settlement, developed by the Knights Templar, home to Pope Benedict XIII, the castle has a lot of history and spectacular views of the ocean. Charming narrow, maze-like streets with a lot of souvenir shops and plenty of restaurants to sit down and enjoy local food. The entrance is 5€ - a bargain for the experience.

This must be the centerpiece of this beautiful walled city and I'm not sure why it's not given more prominence in the tourist literature for those visiting Valencia. Forget the museum and spend time enjoying the magnificence of this Gothic masterpiece, the ornate altar and rose windows, the majestic pipe organ and the intricate spiral staircase.

The Underground River of the Caves of San Jose is a beautiful natural cave.Visit the longest navigable underground river in Europe will allow you to enter into the depths of the earth a peaceful boat plying waters, admire the fanciful shapes of the rocks that the action of water has shaped over thousands of years backward and forward in time at breakneck speed to imagine the growth of stalactites and stalagmites, hear the silence, feel the murmur of water, the echo produced by a drop of water on an underground lagoon, discovering a beautiful landscape that nature has kept secret since the mists of time today.
We wanted to visit the caves as it's an unusual experience for my husband and our 5-year-old. Don't know why it's not well-known, and there was not much information on how to get there. But at the same time when we were at the caves there were lots of people! The tour lasted 45 minutes, the man that guided us spoke only Spanish, unfortunately. There was a small pedestrian part of the rout. No need to take warm clothes as it was not cold inside. I haven't heard there that taking photos is not allowed, nor did I see any restriction signs, and did manage to take some shots without a flash. No one said a word, maybe because no one noticed this)) But it was more interesting to look around than to take photos. Anyway you can buy a photo that is taken at the beginning of the tour. It cost us only 6 euro, not much I think, but it's a great memory. On the whole, we liked the caves tour and an incredible mini-concert in the end of it! The caves themselves are on some distance from the town. So if you come by bus from Valencia, it will take about 30-40 minutes to walk to the caves entrance. Near the caves you can find some places to eat, a toilet and a playground. After the visit to the caves we climbed to Ermita de la Sagrada Familia. On a hot September day it was amazingly calm there, we sat under the pines, ate our sandwiches and even had a nap) The air smelled so tasty! And there's a great view from there. I would definitely recommend to visit this place anyone coming to Valencia!
