As of the 2010 United States Census, the city's population was 5,621, reflecting an increase of 245 (+4.6%) from the 5,376 counted in the 2000 Census. It is the county seat of Okeechobee County. The Lake Okeechobee area was the site of the worst effects of the 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane, the first recorded Category 5 hurricane in the North Atlantic and still one of the deadliest hurricanes ever to strike the US.

Found this place on Groupon, didn’t even know it existed in our small town. We had a great time and can’t wait to do their next room!! Staff was super friendly and would recommend this to anyone looking for some family fun or just a great time with friends.

My son Peter Drago, loved this place and he respected Edwin Rucks - went back several times, helped clean up the place - camped out and was planning on making him a new sign for his entrance. If you go the Peter Drago on Youtube - you will see some of his videos that he produced while visiting Tragically, Peter was killed by a drunk driver in North Carolina on April 7, 2021 while returning to NJ to help his grandmother - he was planning on returning the the mine to visit Edwin with the new sign
