The Alligator & Wildlife Discovery Center is located upstairs at John’s Pass Village in Madeira Beach. Home to exotic pet surrenders and rescues, including 50 crocodilians, lizards, frogs, Sid the sloth, small mammals including 5 pigs, and aquatic life from around the world, plus a more. It is your chance to “kiss a gator”, feed & hold them too. Experience wildlife and learn about wild places from all over the planet, right here in Pinellas County! Our animal family comes to us from various places such as spca, wildlife rescues, reptile rescues and individual owners who can no longer care for the pet.
We had a rainy day, so we were looking for things to do. We have a 12 year old girl and a 7 year old boy, so common interests are few and far between. We chose Alligator Attraction based on reviews and price.....not a huge investment, so we thought we would give it a try. About a 12 minute drive from our condo on Treasure Island. Easy drive. There is a lot of street parking and a public lot right across the street, so it was easy to access. The facility is a little hidden....not sure we would have noticed it if we had just been walking around and not actually looking for it. It is upstairs in a strip mall near John's Pass. Adults were $10. Kids were $7, so only $34 for our family. They have a family rate for bigger families. The animals are diverse and there was a lot to see....much more than I expected. There are SEVERAL different rooms and each houses a variety of animals. There was good signage explaining what the animals were, why they were there, and whether or not it was ok to pet them. My kids spent a lot of time walking around and seeing different enclosures. There were about 6 staff members walking around and interacting with people. This is great...they were VERY knowledgeable and shared lost of interesting info about the animals. Most animals were rescued or surrendered and the handlers talked to the kids about the importance of researching a pet before adopting it. Animal enclosures were pretty clean and all animals appeared to be well cared for. There were several add ons to purchase. Both of my kids paid $5 each to feed the baby gators and had a lot of fun doing that. My son also paid $5 to hold a boa constrictor. The staff person who helped him was great! She talked about why the animal was there and his "personality". We learned a lot. We were there for a little over an hour and had fun. Definitely worth the money and a nice activity for a rainy day.
