Find out what Spanish restaurants to try in Asuncion. The "Mother of Cities" was founded in 1537, and declared independence from Spain in 1811. The charming historic section can be explored on foot. The friendly Paraguayan capital, gateway to the grassy Gran Chaco region, has long been a center of music, poetry and the arts, but only in recent years has Asunción been able to escape its long history of dictatorship rule. Sites to visit include Panteon Nacional de los Heroes, Casa de la Independencia and Catedral de Nuestra Senora de Asuncion.

I have had reason to comment adversely - to put it mildly - on the travesties of Paellas served up in two Asuncion restaurants both claiming to be Spanish. It was therefore with some trepidation that I ordered the Paella, featured as a "special" in Corte y Lena, a restaurant specializing in grilled meats, as its name indicates, on the basis of an excellent (meat-based) meal I had enjoyed there on a previous visit. To say that my gob was smacked by the Paella served up to my single guest and myself ,which would have called for praise even in Spain, is an unfderv statement! I was so impressed that I returned with groups of six and three friends on two more occasions during a ten-day stay in Asuncion, each time ordering the same dish, the quality of which remained invariably excellent.Certainly a venue to note on my next trip!We really appreciate the experience at Corte & Leña that you've already shared! You're always welcome!

Went early evening with the kids. Good menu and decor. Gave complimentary nachos, which were great and very fresh guacamole. Tacos were excellent my kids loved them. Really good, would definitely go back.

And indeed it would be a three points +, as they are very kind and attentive - if not quick - and the decor is nice. The vegetable soup I had was excellent, the salad quite OK. The whole slow food concept is per se a good sign, so thumbs up.

Homemade food, great coctails, and ham and salumi deli with great products. Our specialties are the pastas. We also have pizza made in a wood oven
Visited here for a business dinner. Excellent food, charming staff, local fare, reasonable prices, pleasant setting. What more can I say? I will be back!

Excelente atención y calidad de los productos ofrecidos.
I went here with friends for dinner. The buffet was good - a wide range of salads and breads. The waiters came round frequently with a range of bbq'd meats which all tasted great. You could eat as much as you wanted. They also served a great spinach cannelloni. Desserts were superb and looked like works of art. The bill for 3 came to around Gs 327.000 (around £47 at current exchange rates). This was not much for a traveller although may be for a local. I can definitely recommend it if you find yourself in Asuncion.

Casual local Restaurant that serves paraguayan food and natural juices. The menu is extensive but simple. It is the perfect choice for those who are looking for a good price-value meal.
I wanted traditional Paraguay food. I ordered a sample platter. I got four different things--all fried. They tasted fine, but it sort of felt like fast food food. It pretty much tasted all the same. It was a good experience, but not a place I'll rave about or probably go back to before I leave. Also, I didn't know you had to use the call button to get the waitress to come over--I sat that for 45 minutes waiting for my check. Use the buttons!

You want great paella? Go to the Taberna. While there take time to read the classic writings on the wall. Enjoy the Spanish ambience and take in the great service and ring the cow bell overhead if your waiter is needed. I go for the seafood paella. I come to Asuncion once a year and always plan a dinner at the great Taberna Espanola.

This place is more of a pizza joint, but I decided on having the pizza burger...very filling! Service was outstanding.
