St Ignatius Church is an awe-inspiring building, one of the largest churches in Victoria outside of the Melbourne CBD. Due to Richmond's relative poverty in days gone by, it took many years to complete St Ignatius. The church is built in Gothic Revival style. The main building material is bluestone, the material favored by 19C institutional architects. St Ignatius is in Church St, Richmond's highest point. The stained glass is magnificent. The church is named for St Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, better known as the Jesuits. The Jesuits built their churches for the ages.

The biggest cricketing battle of the summer starts on Boxing Day, when Australia traditionally takes on the overseas visitors at the MCG.. For a batsman, facing an express pace bowler hurling a cricket ball at over 100 miles per hour (145 kms/hr) takes some courage. This year, the opponents are Black Caps (New Zealand). No-one doubts their courage, but on the bumpy Australian wickets, they may not quite have tthe right technique. For Australian cricketers, wearing the Baggy Green cap is the highest honour. Australia is on the comeback trail after a rough patch, it's bad luck that the Black Caps that they have caught the Aussies at their best. See a game at the MCG if you can, there's still viewing space to be had.

Along with the Catholic Church next door St Stephens does a lot of great community work. They also have a lot of amazing classical concerts

Any Melburnian will tell you that Victoria Street is the prime place to go for good Vietnamese food plus a range of other Asian cuisines. It's a fairly gritty street but it rarely disappoints in my experience. There are some fantastic and generally very reasonably priced restaurants on this strip. In addition, there's lots of life and colour here. An iconic area.

The home ground of VFL/AFL powerhouse Richmond until they moved to the neighbouring MCG in the mid 60s. Thankfully they began playing VFL there again in 2014. Great ground to watch footy. VFL Matches are frequently scheduled early here, allowing you to also watch AFL at mcg after. Also home to a fantastic museum. TIP: easily accessed by two train stations (Richmond or Jolimont). Plus tram no 70. PARKING: I used to park at East Richmond station and tram it down Swan St or park in side streets
