Gold and silver may have been behind the hordes that flocked in the 1800s, but liquid gold - Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons and Pinot Noirs - is behind the modern migration. This dream destination for wine lovers has an abundance of fine restaurants and inns. Horse posts have been replaced by bike racks, and pedal power is a great way to explore.

The Napa Valley Opera House is a non-profit performing arts organization located in the heart of downtown Napa and is a national historic landmark originally constructed in 1879. NVOH restored its intimate second-floor, 500-seat Margrit Biever Mondavi Theatre in 2002 after 30 years of planning. Patrons experience an eclectic array of performing arts including theatre, dance, comedy, jazz, blues, world music, and family programming in a world-class setting.

Good for Napa. On a nice day, no need to drive from downtown to Oxbow. Enjoy the walk. Take First St. one direction; Third St. the other. If you are dining at Stone Brewing, you will need to park across the railroad tracks the cross the Third St. bridge.

Every Friday during the Summer months, the Downtown Napa organization presents a function called "Music in the Park" from about 7 to 10 in the Veterans Memorial Park venue. While we were there, three local bands performed for a total of about 3 hours. The locals bring their chairs, blankets, and some even bring food and drink. Everyone seems to have a great time and this appears to be a fine opportunity for the town folk to get together. Should you find yourself in the City of Napa during a Summer Friday, I'd recommend you go there for a touch of local flavor.

We always like to see the Grape Crusher Series statue. Its high over Napa Valley and a welcoming site. There is a free parking area. One then walks up the short hill to get some nice views of the Napa Valley and of the statue. From there one also gets a good view of the Meritage/Vino Bello Resort.
