This statue stands in tribute to one of the greatest footballer to play for Rangers and Scotland. He is spoken of in such reverence by Rangers and Scottish fans that I know he was truly a special player. Sadly, I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing the man play, but it’s good to see this tribute to the great man in lieu. The statue depicts Baxter as he would’ve been at the peak of his powers, with the ball at his left foot and no doubt about to send another opponent the wrong way.

This has to be one of the most unusual football stadiums in Britain with its stock car track running around the outside of the pitch. The Blue Brazil, as they are affectionately known, have been at Central Park for a century. I have been wanting to visit this stadium for some time and was kindly offered an unofficial tour of the ground. Cowdenbeath have had a string of famous managers who have started their careers managing here. Recently, the team have suffered a barren period of footballing success and narrowly avoided three straight relegations by virtue of a penalty shootout win against East Kilbride at the end of the 2016 / 17 season. The stadium is worth a visit as it is full of history and giant blue & white tyres!
