Applecore Cottage is a Charlevoix, Michigan landmark and was named for the Apple trees on the property. It looks like it jumped out of the pages of a storybook. It was designed and built by Virginia Olsen, the daughter of Earl Young, the famous architect of the Charlevoix Mushroom Houses.

Was planning a trip to the area and happened upon a travel article that referenced the Mushroom House Tours. Found there was space Saturday afternoon and booked it online. Enjoyed a lively and fun hour with Edith at the wheel as we rode the extended golf cart through the streets of Charlevoix learning about Earl Young, the Mushroom Houses and Boulder Park neighborhood. Well worth the time and I think much more fun than the self-guided tour. Only suggestion - they may want to consider a "Confirmation" so when you book tickets, you know you are confirmed. Otherwise a great way to learn about interesting architecture and the architect's personality.

Open year round, Castle Farms is one of Northern Michigan's top historic attractions, as well as one of the Midwest's premier wedding venues. Visitors can stroll throughout the magnificent stone buildings dating back to 1918, and enjoy gorgeous gardens. A variety of museum quality collections featuring castles, antique toys, and royalty memorabilia from around the world are displayed throughout the buildings. The Castle's 1918 Museum showcases items from that time era, plus World War I memorabilia. Children delight in feeding the huge rainbow trout swimming in the Reflection Pond, playing a game of giant chess, or hide-and-seek with the fairies and gnomes dwelling in the Enchanted Forest. Our Self-Guided Tours offer Scavenger Hunt tours for children, too! Everyone loves The Castle's Garden Railroad; with more than 1/2 mile of track and 68 G-scale trains, it's one of the largest in the State. The lighthouse is right in town and accessible to Michigan Beach. Such a beautiful sight and a nice walk to the end of the pier. If it is a warm weather visit, jump into lake Michigan after your stroll down the pier.
