The restaurant at the Gage Hotel
I was not expecting to get such a great meal in Marathon Texas. Great atmosphere and great waitstaff. I had the Beef Tenderloin and it was excellent. All the sides and bread etc... were cooked to perfection. Highly recommend.

At the Gage Hotel
I pedaled into Marathon a bit late, and after getting myself situated at the most unique hostel on Planet Earth, I found myself in desperate need to replenish my energy; I needed FOOD! Unfortunately, the only eatery open late was this fine institution, because I had NO reservation. Fortunately, they accommodated me, leading me to a more remote part, then a less remote part where the free WiFi connection was better.
The waitress (Delilah) was very prompt, reliable, and friendly, which I appreciated no end. She saw that I was a bit bedraggled, and quickly brought me additional rolls & buter, with maple clean freshwater to wash it down with.
I knew my food costs on this bicycle journey (I was celebrating a successful 28-year career teaching in the World-class Ysleta I.S.D., El PasoTX-USA with a “reTIRED Biketour”, a 1-country/2-state/108kms/649miles bicycling odyssey, 23JAN-17FEB2018) we’re going to be enormous, but I didn’t want to spend it all here. I settled for warmth (deliciously hot bean soup), a tantalizing gan pozole, and, of course, vanilla ice cream with hit fudge! I slept well that night in “The Beehive”! This is a 5-star establishment, and I give it my “Wheel of Approval!”

We ate here twice on our stay. The breakfast taco (or as they as burrito) was good but I really enjoyed their biscuits and gravy plate. They have inside and outside dining. It is a confusing on where to order but once you walk in you can order Togo or stay there. Not sure how happy the waitress's are working there but coffee, OJ and food are good!

My delight in finding this eatery, dedicated to morning through mid-day victuals was WONDERFUL! The prices were extremely reasonable for a varied enough menu to satisfy both my biketouring hunger and pocketbook. Waitress Sadie must surely be exhausted by the end of her shift—I’ve rarely seen anyone moving so quickly between tables ensuring that all coffee cups are refilled as needed. Additionally, she kept busy writing menu orders from us (I must’ve been particularly aggravating because I frequently ‘double-ordered’ items—one dish to eat on the spot, another dish ‘to-go’, which served as either an evening meal or the following morning whilst camping somewhere.) as well as delivering meals to tables. Like I say, she might have been a bit aggravated with me because I continuously ordered food due to my great fear of being hungry. This , of course, was complicated immeasurably by the fact that I was in the middle of my “reTIRED Biketour”, what turned out to be a 1-country/2-state, 1081km/649mile bicycling odyssey, 23JAN-17FEB2018. Already, I had to rely upon my emergency food on FIVE occasions, which was just enough to keep my body going, albeit slowly, and anticipated at least another 4 or 5 times. And most importantly, I carried enough clean freshwater (heavy!) to stay hydrated. I was delighted to find a close by outlet to recharge my cell and the free WiFi—another critical need in today’s World. This exceptionally fine gets my enthusiastic “Wheel of Approval!”

I think this is the only pizza place in this small town Marathon. You can watch the owner make your pizza over the window. They have a nice small room inside with very unique decoration. Look up the ceiling. The owner made that room ceiling with an old door and stones. Pizza was fresh and good. Cash only.

It is next door to Cafe Cenzio, Marathon, TX. It is a hamburger and soda shop.
And I ain't messing around. I crave these huevos rancheros. I have eaten hundreds of orders of Huevos Rancheros and these can't be beat. The salsa is amazing, the corn tortilla underneath is perfect. The beans are wow and even the little hash brown patty is perfect! Don't forget to TIP THE COOK!
