I went there with a group of friends. Some of them, like me, with some allergies or food intolerance. The chef was super careful. He prepared a special dishes for each one who requested special food. The food was totally amazing, very well prepared. Desert really nice too. Apart from that you can have your lunch with an amazing view. Cozy atmosphere.

In the 47 years we’ve been regularly visiting Sweden, we have experience some fairly uninspiring dining in rural areas, where the standards often seem to be ‘average’ at best. But this restaurant is truly an exception! The location on the Hellekis Säteri estate is imposing and the restaurant itself is charmingly located in one of the estate’s old greenhouses, complete with ancient gnarled vines twisting their way across the glazed roof, which undoubtedly gives some welcome shade in the heat of summer. One can also eat outside if the weather permits! The restaurant has a limited lunch menu which changes each day its open – one fish dish, one meat, and a vegetarian soup alternative, but this should be sufficient choice for the majority of people and we did not find it in any way restrictive. There is also a handsome array of cakes, either for those requiring a pudding or an accompaniment to ‘afternoon tea’ (or coffee!). The staff is also very sensitive to those with gluten problems and the mere mention of my gluten intolerance brought forth a home-baked gluten-free roll to accompany my lunch! The dishes we chose were extremely well cooked and imaginatively presented. Apart from Löfwings Atelje och Konstcafe (see our review of that establishment), I would rate Hellekis Trädgårds Café & Kök as one of the very best destinations for superior cuisine we’ve experienced in this part of rural Sweden. This is not ‘fine dining’ in grand, sumptuous surroundings, but it does offer top quality fare for those who are fed up with run-of-the-mill Swedish ‘dagens’ and who want something created with more inspiration and flair (and far less salt than the average excessively-salted restaurant meal, for which Sweden seems to have an unhealthy penchant!).

Så skönt att besöka Kinnekulle och ta en paus här, med fantastiskt gott hembakt fika i en mysig omgivning och med trevlig och gästvänlig personal. Uteservering. Parkering. Tar även swish.

You can't have high expectations for a diner attached to a petrol station. Typically you are stopping for fuel and a snack before heading further down the freeway. The restaurant area is spacious and has wide selection of hot & cold food. There is a very nice outdoor area. Certainly popular with truck drivers so while average highway quality, it can't be too bad for them to return. We were able to find something healthy for lunch.

We sailed into Hällekis harbour for essential boat maintenance only, and were delighted to find the restored historic street of Falkängensvägen. The street comprises several restored workers apartments from 1899, four in each detached property, including one containing original furnishings as a museum. There are also small museums for the local cement factory and it's associated quarry, local geology and waggons.
The jewel in the crown is the Café, which is also the reception for the hostal accommodation, bicycle- and car-hire. Fresh coffee is served with home-made cakes and biscuits 'to die for', and there is also a daily menu of light lunch options.
The staff at the café could not have been more friendly, welcoming and helpful to a pair of English visitors!

Undvik detta ställe, i vart fall under Vårrundan (konsthelg på Kinnekulle första helgen i maj). Vi fick vänta ca 80 min på en "vårtallrik" bestående av en barnmatsportion billig pasta och köttfärssås (visserligen från egenproducerat kött), för hutlösa 175 kr/portion! I övrigt är miljön trevlig men då mat och service är så undermålig blir detta första och sista besöket för oss, tyvärr!!

This part of the countryside is beautiful to drive around for a day or two.
A more picturesque and cosy place than this is hard to find. Winter or summer doesn't matter. During high seasons is bakery running daily with the wonderful sent of freshly baked pastries and bread greeting you when walk through the entrance.
Wonderful buns and rolls, sensational cakes and very tasty sandwiches to choose from. If your more hungry do they have a small meal menu varying with the season.
Go there, enjoy!

Om du vill ha en pizza, en hamburgare eller en plankstek, så här du kommit rätt. Finns något för alla och en del åker långväga för deras mat. Mysiga Zacki bar ligger i samma lokal och erbjuder underhållning med jämna mellanrum.
