The lake and dam were a motorcycle ride destination. The Philpott Lake overlook provides a great view of the lake. Spectacular view of the coves and undeveloped shoreline. Rare treat to see condo-free lake shore. Good seating to relax and enjoy. As we relaxed my first time here friends took and sent pictures to friends. A small visitor center provides more information about the Corps of Engineers operation. The lake has several marinas, picnic area and boat launch facilities. Before departing we rode to the bottom of the dam for a look at the height of the dam. The area was cooler than the top due to the release of cold water to the Smith River. An excellent trout stream Overall the view is worth a trip. Other outdoor activities are available.

Really nice trail that offers even a novice rider opportunity to challenge themselves! Very scenic and well maintained! Branches out into the uptown Martinsville for great food!

So, this place is awesome with 11 miles of trail that is maintained by the owner, Bill, meticulously. We came from Georgia for a USAC race and don't know of any trail system that is so inviting and enjoyable. The trails are root-y, dry, and have a lot of sharp rocks. However, it is totally covered in shade, which is LOVELY. The trails are also very technical with hard turns and climbs. Don't miss the opportunity to ride these trails!
