Named for legendary explorer, Daniel Boone, Boone, North Carolina retains the pioneer spirit, despite having grown into a busy college town, the home of Appalachian State University. The surrounding area is one of the country's best destinations for outdoor adventures. Walk across the Mile High Swinging Bridge to Grandfather Mountain's Linville Peak, the highest point in the Blue Ridge Mountains, or grab your bike and head to Pisgah National Forest, featuring over 200 miles of exciting trails.

I did the boys 2 week camp about 20 years ago. As i have grown older, it remains one of my fondest memories. I gained so much knowledge, confidence, and respect for others at Turtle Island. It is an experience, that I think, every young man should have. Most of my best attributes and skills in life were born here.

If you want a flat easy workout walk next to a creek and green open fields then you’ll love The Green Way Trail. It’s free and easy to access.

We had a lovely walk, which is very doable until you get to the steps that lead to the best views. Please do not bring your dogs. The walk is narrow, crowded, and uneven to the bottom of the falls. There are few places to step off and it’s nearly impossible to pass both a man and large dog walking down while you’re climbing up. Also, arrive before 10 am to get parking.

We hiked all of the way up the trails and really took in all of the beautiful mountain scenery. Mountain biking trails are abundant, and we walked our dogs to the top and took in the awe-inspiring mountain beauty. Will definitely return!

Wanted to take our 74 yr old mother to hike a waterfall trail so after doing some research we chose Laurel Creek Falls as it seemed the easiest for her. It was exactly as we expected, our mother was able to do the entire thing with ease. We did have give her a stable hand during one section of incline and to get onto the top/highest part. She was very proud that she did it. Lots of exposed tree roots. Several spots for great photo ops along the way. The scariest part was absolutely crossing the main road from the parking lot to the trail. The semi trucks come barreling around the corner and can not slow down so move quickly and guide small children and elderly. Was a perfect day trip for us. We went up the road to try and see Wautaga Falls but never could find it.

This is one of the most beautiful hikes in the area. There is a canopy of rhododendrons throughout the hike, numerous brooks, a little bit of scrambling, a coupe of steps, and a gravel path with lots of roots and rocks. It's easy to find, and easy to park. It's a great place to pack a picnic, there's a picnic table at the beginning of the hike.
