The scenery here is unbelievable. Incredibly beautiful and, away from Trzy Korony and Sokolica, the paths are relatively quiet.

This less traveled area of Poland is one of lovely tradition and natural beauty. I have climbed to the top of the Babia Gora twice and also attended the "Babiogorska Jesien" festival in nearby Zawoja. With the backdrop of the Babia Gora, local traditions are reenacted as the sheep are brought down from the hills and local townspeople sing and play folk music in a parade down the streets in a celebration of local heritage. It all ends at the local fair grounds where traditional music, food and crafts can be experienced. The Festival takes place every year at the end of September.

One of 23 national parks in Poland, this one established in 1959 cover some 6000 ha. Weird borders, which first run close to the main ridge and Poland/Czechia border, and then suddenly they cut deep into Poland, surrounding places far from ridge, such Góra Chojnik. Head seat in Jelenia Góra Sobieszów. Miles and miles of hiking trails, accessible all year round, but like in no other Park - trails can be closed by the Park authority, and they do it big time (reconstruction of paths, danger of avalanhes, protection of black grouse in their breeding season), so be aware and check before you go, especially in spring. Nine mountain lodges (schronisko) on Polish side, plus many more in Czech part. Highest point in Park - Śnieżka mountain is also highest in Sudetes and highest on Czechia. Two major ski stations, one in Karpacz (built around chair lift to Kopa) and in Szklarska Poręba (built around chair lift to Szrenica). Good transport links to both forementioned towns, also good links to Sobieszów and Jagniątków - these are parts of Jelenia Góra and are served by city buses. No tansport along park borders from Szklarska to Karpacz, so if you want to travel from one end of Park to the other - you got to go through Jelenia Góra - although in some years there's been such link in summer holidays time. Many many tourist attractions at the foot of Karkonosze, just outside the Park. Been there so many times, hoping to get back there soon.
