Parking is next to the old fort, which is buried beneath soil and has not been escavated, but the temple of Mithras lies at the bottom of the valley. It's a 5-minute walk from the parking. It is in good condition and worth a visit. The temple was used by soldiers as many of them followed this cult of Mithras

It’s great that a small seaside village has something like this to attract visitors and provide a talking point. Something that draws you to it, from whatever viewpoint you are looking at it. Newbiggin is a quiet unspoilt seaside village with a nice promenade and superb sandy beach - well worth a visit.

No visit to the Grace Darling Museum would be complete without a visit to the Grace Darling Memorial. If you go upstairs in the Museum and look through the window, you will see the prominent stone Memorial in one corner of the graveyard of St Aidan's Church opposite. Paid for by public subscription, the original memorial to the heroine Grace Darling made of Portland stone, contained a life-size statue of Grace with, appropriately, an oar at her side. So that it would be seen by passing ships, it was placed on an elevated position at the west end of the graveyard. The Portland stone, however, soon weathered and Grace's figure was replaced by one made of Northumberland stone. The original effigy was moved to the interior of St Aidan's church, where it is still on display. Many people believe that Grace rests beneath her Memorial. She does not. In the graveyard, south of the Memorial, is the Darling family plot. Thi, actually, is where Grace lies at rest with her mother and father, brother Job and sister Thomasin.

We had conversations on the promenade at Newbiggin by the sea with several people about the Couple installation, one of whom recommended that we see the Land Couple sculpture, a reduced version of the one in the bay, sculpted by the award winning Sean Henry. We walked along to see it and were not disappointed. I loved the realistic colours of the skin especially on the male figure. It was set on a circular plinth at the top of some steps which led to a small area with a long wooden bench seating area with a grassed piece of land behind this leading onto Vernon Street.

The Tenantry Column stands proudly above the town and can bewell enjoyed by those passing by. It stands on a very pleasant grassy mound that one can walk up and around and enjoy looking down over the buildings and fields of Alnwick. the monument is some 25 metres tall and has a splendid lion at the top, the Lion of the Duke's Percy Family of Alnwick.
