One of the main attractions in Nagano is Zenkō-ji, a colorful 7th-century Buddhist temple with proud architecture and a humbling presence. The compound contains lovely gardens, a treasure house, sacred statues and a massive incense burner. Kids will love the “ancient” appeal of the Chausuyama Dinosaur Park, adjacent to the Nagano Chausuyama Zoo. Test your stealth skills at the Chibikko Ninja Village, then reward your hard work with a tasting tour at the Nishi-no-Mon sake brewery.

Cozy bar lounge and restaurant. Amazing access for sightseeing Zenkoji, located at the main street. Specially, our comfy capsule beds have a private space better than normal bunks. Direction to Guesthouse→ It takes 15mins from Nagano station(Zenkoii Exit),walk along the Chuo street towards Zenkoji. go past the Central Square Parkig, you’ll see a bakery on your right, and It’s just before it.
We were there during peak season (winter time), so we paid a steep price for it. Here are some pros and cons of staying here that I would like to share: Pros: 1. There are many convenience stores nearby 2. One famous bakery just right beside the hostel, and I highly recommend to try their pecan nut and apple pies 3. 10-minute walk from the Nagano station 4. Friendly staffs 5. Overall cleanliness is acceptable Cons: 1. The room gets pretty cold at night despite the heater is turned on 2. The pillow and bed are too soft 3. The whole place is not well-lit and gets pretty dark at night 4. The kitchen is too cold despite the gas heater is provided 5. Toothbrush, toothpaste and bath towel are not provided, but you can get them with additional charge 6. Creaky floorboards and doors

Dot Hostel Nagano locates only 1 minutes walk from Zenkoji temple and 20 minutes walk from Nagano station. 100 years old traditional house has been renovated for the hostel. The lounge is big enough for more than 15 people to eat and drinks as well as using laptop with free-wifi. If you want to feel like real japanese life, this is the one you should stay for you!
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Dot hostel. It's such a beautiful place with great vibes. Beautiful as in the old Japanese style building, and the decor inside, and the entire experience. The people working there are reeeaaally nice too!! It's also very close to zenkoji temple which is the biggest sight in Nagano city. There's also free breakfast! Will 100% come back and recommend to all coming travelers!!

1166 backpackers is a place to sleep, meet local people in Nagano, Japan. We have 3 rooms waiting for you to sleep in. Our lounge is a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy with playing games or reading books. We are located in the MONZEN neighborhood in the old city center where is few steps away from the Zenkoji temple. Travel as escaping the hustle and bustle of urban city to Zenkoji temple, you will see old traditional houses here and there. To be amazed, over 50 small business like cafes, restaurants, book shops, flower shops, galleries and craft shops are newly opened by young people in this 5 years with renovating old warehouses in this area. These shops are not for busy tourists hopping around major touristic spots with lonely planet but for tourists who need time for chill-out. As we all know, Nagano city is hub of hopping around major spots like ZENKOJI TEMPLE, SNOW MONKEY PARK, MATSUMOTO CASTLE, OBUSE, TOGAKUSHI, ONSENs and more. So, what I want to say is we are best-located hostel for both sides of sightseeing and relax time!!
We had just one night in Nagano but I am so glad we stayed at 1166 Backpackers, and I would have loved to stay longer! The hostel is in a great location, walkable from the station but close to the main street (Chuo-dori) and the incredible Zenko-ji temple (good for getting to the atmospheric early morning service!). There's also lots of great restaurants, bakeries, cafes around. The welcome at the hostel was really greats, like we were old friends rather than new guests, Minami showed us tips for the city, shared her knowledge and very chatty. We had a dormitory to ourselves which wasn't huge, but fine for our purposes, and it was warm (not always the case in Japanese accommodation in January!). It was a fab stay and I would definitely recommend to others.

Mash Café & Bed NAGANO
Very dirty showers, Very poor services, no towel provided, no cups at the kitchen, nothing at the kitchen. Seems like personnel don't clean them during the day. The AC in the room didn't work for warm when it was February and only +2C at night! When I asked to solve the problem with AC, the reception guy said that he can return money and that is! So at the night I must go out and find other hotel! Very rude, unprofessional and lazy personnel. Never seen such services across Japan. Looks like this hotel doesn't care of anything, just get money for 0 service.

My wife and I stayed here from the 25/10/2019 to the 27/10/2019 (2 nights) in a private room. The location is great, it within minutes to Hongo station (only a few stops away from Nagano city) and very easy to get too. The room was clean, it had a fridge and a spacious shower. It had everything we needed except the pillows were uncomfortable, they were too soft. The host Shine is a great guy, he made us feel at home. His english is excellent. The first night we were in Nagano, he invited us to have dinner with him at a local restaurant. The food was great and reasonably priced, he also translated for us what was on the menu. Shine wasn't in his office the morning we were leaving for the station so we put the key in the check out box. To make a long story short, Shine crossed the train tracks to see us off at the station. He bought our tickets off us and said he would drive us to Nagano station. He then drove us to the station and gave us a little souvenir which was a piece of paper with written Japenese words wishing us the best. I am a customer experience consultant and what was demonstrated by Shine during our stay was outstanding. Thanks for everything Shine.

The location is key, right next to the train station. The bed was confortable enough, even if it was quite difficult to get out of it. But the place is way too small, it's one tiny room with a sink, a cooker, a shower and four beds. With four people in the room, you have to organize yourself if you want to get out of bed or open your luggage. The shower is in this mixed room, only a curtain separates it from the rest of the room. The toilet and bathroom sink are in the entrance corridor. For one night, it's practical, but I don't recommend it.
