The first few times I walked by Versilia, I was scared to go in, because I thought it was going to be out of my budget. It is actually at the low end of the middle range for Jena.Pizzas, made in their imported pizza oven, run about â¬6-11. Pasta also runs about â¬6-11. Everything is made fresh and tastes fresh, too.Four points instead of five because the Italian service personnel sometimes has a really difficult time with German, and also because there is occasionally a very Italian mentality towards service (reservations have been lost, the person manning the pizza oven forgot to pop in some of the pizzas, so food didn't all come out at the same time, etc.).

We went to Trattotia Italy in Jena for a business lunch. When walking into the restaurant you get impressed by the open, central pizza oven. Sure we tried one of the house pizza's, and together with a recommended wine it tasted delicious. The restaurant was full for lunch, but still quite and cosy.

Buy it at Aldi, put it in the microwave and save money and time. Maybe it is better during the evening or they just had a bad day, but I can not recommend the lunch option at all and Iwon't go again to find out...

Immergrün is not the fanciest restaurant of all time. Everything is self-service: you order at a cash register and return your plates to a cart. However, the price is right, the portions are decent for the price, the homemade cake is always delicious, and the atmosphere is comfortable (you have your choice of sitting in the basement, filled with comfortable old furniture and lots of board games, or when the weather is nice, you can sit outside in the garden). It's ideal if you want to chat with a friend or are looking for a low-key place to bring kids. They are also dog-friendly (the staff has frequently offered to bring my roommate's dog a bowl of water or a dog treat, on the house).

This place is you typical italian restaurant, nothing special though. Also the name Lo Studente suggests that you have lower prices and a special offer for students which is not the case. Personally I think there are better italian alternatives in Jena concerning quality and value. If you are looking for your normal pasta/pizza dish you don't go wrong with this place.

Nice little Italian cafe, unfortunately often overlooked. The decor is very pleasant - made of wine bottles and pastas and other ingredients - and the owner/server is very friendly. He takes good care of the regulars and the patrons. The food is freshly cooked, flavorful and decently priced. The coffee is also recommended. Sadly not too much choice for the vegetarians. I has the Gnocchi with cheese sauce and loved it. One thing that's missing was a proper menu card. It is difficult and a bit off reading the dinner menu off the black board all the time. But it's definitely worth a try.

I went there three times because my friend like it although the food is not at all to my taste but at least the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice in the first two times. In the third time,we had the most unpleasant disrespectful unprofessional staff I have ever had to meet in a restaurant so much so that I decided I will never go to any L'osteria restaurant ever again.Ciao and thank you very much for your feedback and for giving us a detailed account, so that we know exactly how we need to improve our service! We can well understand that you were exasperated by our poor service, when our staff members were not as polite, friendly, and attentive as you might reasonably expect. We shall discuss your experience in detail at our next team meeting, so that we can make sure that nothing like this happens again. Cordiali saluti,The L'Osteria Team

Die Kneipe isn't fancy by any means ("music" seems to be the unofficial theme here, including guitar-shaped tables and a ceiling covered with old sheet music), but it is comfortable and cozy. There is a huge selection of drinks, alcoholic and non, and there are frequently offers during the week (including "Nudelnacht," or "noodle night," when a number of pasta dishes are on special for under â¬3, or free peanuts). Food is also very affordable - I think the most expensive stuff on the menu is â¬7 or â¬8, if I remember correctly. The down side? Sometimes the restaurant is a bit too cozy, and it can be hard to get into and out of the tables and booths when the restaurant is packed. Also, on nights like Nudelnacht, don't expect everyone's food to come out at the same time. It seems like the people in the kitchen cook a huge batch of spaghetti bolognese and then send that out to customers who ordered that, then a batch of spaghetti with olive oil and garlic and send that out, etc.
