This Indian restaurant is under new ownership and recently re-furbished with a slight change of name from Zaffran to Saffron Lounge. We pre-booked for a week-night tea-time and were intrigued to see the new decor which is a subtle fusion of different cultures. There are fabulous rose-gold Moroccan-styled light shades, a bubble wall behind the optics and a contemporary designed interior. It was our first visit to the restaurant so we were unable to compare it to the previous decor. The restaurant extends quite a long way back so there are plenty of tables. It was not over busy the night we visited. There seemed to be a wide choice on the menu, including a few veggie options for my vegetarian friend. We started with a pickle tray and poppadoms followed by a vegetarian korma and a lamb passanda with pilau rice and a naan bread to share. Everything was tasty, hot and well cooked. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The staff were very friendly and kept checking that everything was OK but were a little over-keen to remove plates before we had completely finished! We asked for the sweet menu and sadly there is none yet! They need to get a freezer apparently. Sorry, but had to mark you down for that! We were a little disappointed but ordered more drinks instead. The total bill was about £43 with drinks. The bar bill was totalled on the hand written bill so it was a little hard to work out what we both owed as one of us was on wine and the other on soft drinks. However we coped and will be quite happy to return another time.

The owner (I presume) who served us was great fun and gave us great service all night. The food was good all round but not amazing. The mixed kebab starters were good but some of the meat was a bit overcooked. The curries were nice but a little too sweet. The portion size of rice was very small but he offered to sort straight away. Everything else was good and the service was fantastic from start to finish. Not far off being really good in our opinion but meat could be a bit better. We would all go back and 7/10

Hessle's best kept secret hawwa indian restaurant will offer you a wide range of Indian cuisine all tailor cook to your own liking
We have been hear in the past and have not been too impressed, although we liked the BYO na\ture of the place. However on Saturday we (a party of four) all had really good starters and mains, all were different and all were tasty. So having not been here for some time due to poor food ( we had some dire takeaway around New Year we would now try it again. If it keep up this standard we will go more regularily. Great that it remains BYO.Decor is still a bit garish however and when full is very noisey.

This Place Is Wonderful But Near Empty When We Went, really Needs A Mention.
fancied an indian, someone had recommended here so wanted to try it out. made a telephone order which was taken clearly and quickly. i arrived and its a tidy place and would like to eat in sometime. we had the pickles and popadoms...which was spot on. my main was maybe not quite as good, something just felt it was missing. i don't have indian often so not something i can compare easily. i would give them a second chance and try eating in sometime.
