Highland Hotel

Peacefully set in its own grounds with lovely views over the colourful village square, this chateau style hotel’s traditional features have been carefully retained to strike just the right Highland note. A warm welcoming feeling comes as much from the friendly staff as from the fine wood panelled public rooms which have been carefully preserved. Strathpeffer itself is just steps away from the hotel and is renowned as an attractive Highland spa resort with fabulous Victorian architecture. Be sure to enjoy the scenic views of the village below from the open veranda. The massive peak of Ben Wyvis is the backdrop to this charming village. It’s a perfect base from which to explore Scotland’s dramatic Northern Highlands – mountainous countryside, sparkling streams, waterfalls and golden shores.

EXCELLENT VALUE

Stayed here for one night, whilst on business in Inverness. The hotel prices this time of year in Inverness are very high , however 25 minutes away I found this beautiful old lady. Yes I believe the hotel dates back to 1700 . STAFF All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Especially young Richard in the Restaurant in the morning, run of his feet, dealing with coach loads of guest , he stayed calm and dealt with the situation.( well done ,excellent customer service) Hotel Grand old lady , large spacious reception and lobby , plenty of tables. Grand staircase,(also lift if needed) Stayed here for one night , on business. large dinning room , My room was large very clean ,sofa , 2 chairs , good size Tv. Bedding was fresh and clean , as was the room . Bathroom, bath and separate shower .( shower was excellent) FOOD . I opted for half board basis . Evening meal well presented and tasted awesome. Breakfast.. ok here where it goes a little bottled shape , the hotel caters for coach parties and excursions. The parties usually depart at 9 am however breakfast during week starts at 8 till 9:30 am ..SO you have lots of people waiting to go for breakfast (queuing) ONLY A RECOMMENDATION,DURING THE WEEK , START BREAKFAST AT 7AM AN FINISH AT 9 AM ,THIS WOULD ALLOW WORKERS TO EAT , ALSO TAKE PRESSURE OF THE COACHING PARTIES , I could feel people getting wound up , one nasty gentleman pushed the restaurant door open at 8:02 in a mood ( really ) Buffet breakfast fresh , tasty and hot . well done chef . There’s no pleasing some customers, I saw things with these peoples patience which opened my for when I get older . STRATHPEFFER Stayed in this area 3 times , a truly beautiful place to visit. In summary. Beautiful hotel , great staff, ( please remember, we have just come out of covid lock downs , there are places in hotel that need looking at , but these are superficial, however they currently come at a great price .) I believe hotel is in new ownership, it will take time and money , BUT , when done the prices will rise . well done to the team at The Highland Hotel ???? I enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend…

Comfortable, friendly, pristine

I have stayed with the Flemings quite frequently over the years, and never had a less than excellent stay. My late wife loved it there, and since she died I have stayed there a couple of times. Breakfasts are first rate, and the rooms very clean and comfortable. Sandra and Walter are the best hosts one could wish for.

We are pet-friendly and have a large garden for dogs to run around in. Each room has a double bed, sitting area with chairs and table, lamps and a selection of books and magazines, DVDs and CDs. It also has a kettle, tea and coffee, hot chocolate, water, mugs and glasses. Each room has central heating plus an extra heater, TV/DVD/CD player, unlimited wi-fi and a hairdryer. There are also 2 very active and friendly dogs, Kevin and Scooby - they are silent at night! If you are travelling with a baby or toddler we have baby food, a cot and high chair and plenty of toys.

Wonderful Strathpeffer Accommodation

We absolutely loved our stay, Rob and Victoria were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. They were so attentive. Our large garden view room was spectacular and it was pristine and fresh, the shower room looked new. Nice selection of complimentary drinks and biscuits. Great smart tv with Netflix. Lovely seating outside, we took food from the local deli in Strathpeffer, which is also fantastic. Breakfast really nice, good quality produce. We would definitely stay again, amazing value for money, loved their dog and two cats too, who were around but so well behaved.

Brilliant location and excellent staff

Reviewed By jamesmccaig

The Proprietors have changed since my last visit 18 months ago. Warm welcome from Owners in the Foyer and immediately registered and shown to rooms with great efficiency. Staff took time to explain the arrangements for dinner and breakfast, good move as the place was very busy on our arrival. Rooms were large and well appointed, clean and fresh with every gadget you might need. The bed was bigger than King-size and I nearly lost my wife in it! I love that neat and tidy feel, everything folded properly and lots of lovely fresh white towels in the bathroom.. I used the bath while the other half preferred the hot shower, the sheer force of the jet was what put me off and led me to the more sedate bath. Lots of nice soaps, conditioners and shampoos available in dispensers in the bathroom while ample tea and coffee and biscuits and shortbread awaited on the bedside table beside the kettle provided. Really there was absolutely nothing to criticise about the preparation of the room, just perfect! The hotel itself is an old traditional building, modernised to have a small number of large rooms and heated with its own eco friendly wood burning furnace in an adjacent building. Majestic views across the Loch abound, and the tranquillity of this quiet site is magnificent. On a clear night the sky view from the seats in the garden is wonderful. Despite the small number of rooms the bar and dining room always seem busy, caused by regular visits from folks living in the chalets dotted about the forest. This leads to interesting opportunities to meet others in the small bar / lounge area in an intimate fashion. The Hotel policy welcomes well behaved dogs and I met a gorgeous Ridgeback in the bar! Tariffs are competitive and one should watch for deals available at quiet times. Food is great, free buffet breakfast with unlimited toast, cereals ,fruit and jams for croissants. Fresh fruit juices and yoghurt and Weetabix are also available. If you require a cooked break fast a wide range of items will be prepared to your choice in just a few moments. A full Scottish serving with ten items will set you up for the day at around £8. Dinner is served from 6 to 0830 and is always busy so best to get a table early. At peak times we chose to eat in the lounge area. Starters come in around £4.50 provided 7 options of which I tried three, Crispy pork belly and garnish, Salmon and smoked haddock, Garlic and rosemary brie were all gorgeous and tasty. My partner loved the hearty soups and also tried the haggis bites with great gusto. Mains were served in generous portions , attractively garnished and I loved the 1/2 pound Angus burger served with salad and curly fries. Rice and small new potatoes were available if preferred. Our friends drooled over the House Chicken curry and enjoyed it so much they had it on successive nights. The ladies preferred Cajun Chicken spiced breast, served with rice and salad. These portions were enormous! WE had one vegetarian at the table who selected Clotted Cream and Leek tart, a new dish for me but it was pronounced "delicious". Sorry if I am dwelling on food but the look of the glazed fillet of salmon nearly had me changing my order while a gent sitting opposite devoured the biggest Rump steak I have seen for years! A wide range of pizzas were also available at reasonable prices unless you started to stack up the extra toppings on the basic Margherita base. We didn't have the capacity to handle three courses on any of our nights even although the comprehensive choices were very tempting. Everything about the Hotel, its location, the vista, the solitude, and the very welcoming staff bodes well for its future development. I heartily comment this venue to anyone needing a great base for travelling further North and preferring not to stay in the hustle and bustle of Inverness at beside noisy main roads!
