The city of Sitka, located on Baranof Island along the Alaska Panhandle, was once the capital of Russian America. Nearby Sitka National Historical Park was established to commemorate the Battle of Sitka in 1804, the last major conflict between Europeans and the native Alaskans. The park now helps preserve the culture of the Tlingit people, as well as the Russian and American settlers, with collections of rare artifacts, the preserved remains of the Tlingit fort and a Russian Bishop's House.

This is a good hotel is Sitka. Location is interesting - along the wharf. We found this unique. Walk out of the room and see Alaskans working on the wharf. Owners are doing their best to come out of Covid and keep their business alive. I look forward to the time they can get their restaurant back open. Owners found out this was my wife's 70th birthday and gave us an room with a view.

My wife and I visited Sitka at the end of May, 2022. Our lodging for 2 nights was Eagle Bay Inn. We arrived in Sitka via Alaska Seaplanes from Juneau. Miranda from the inn picked us up at the airport and drove us to the motel. The motel is part of a strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside. But the friendly, welcoming staff on the inside is what makes Eagle Bay Inn special. Vicki, the energetic manager, showed us a room on the first floor and another room on the second floor. We chose spacious room #16 on the second floor, overlooking the front parking lot. It actually had two rooms. It was a suite. The lobby of the inn has a kitchenette that is stocked with coffee, orange juice, bagels & cream cheese, jellies, yogurt, donuts, cookies, apples and cherry turnovers. The Eagle Bay Inn is a short walk to both the Raptor Center and the Sitka National Historic Park. A Blue Line bus stop is just a minute walk from the lobby. We used the Blue Line bus to get within a block of the Fortress Of The Bears. After checking out the bears, we took a 5 mile bus ride and walked around downtown Sitka. Several times throughout the day, an eagle would be perched at the top of a tree visible from our room. Just across the road from the inn is a rocky beach with great views of the water and mountains. At the end of our visit to Sitka, Miranda took us to the airport. After sitting a while waiting for our plane, a person at the checkout counter asked us if we were missing a cell phone. Sure enough, my wife had left her cell phone in our room at the Eagle Bay Inn. Miranda found it while cleaning the room, called the airport and then drove back to the airport to hand deliver it to my wife. Name me another motel/hotel that would do that. THAT is customer service at it's best. Another Tripadviser review mentioned constant traffic in and out of the strip mall. Our room was on the front of the building but traffic didn't seem excessive or bother us.

Let me start with the positive. Staff is very attentive. Good location. As for the negatives, the rooms smell. Looks like the hotel has not been updated for years. Room doors slam. Be prepared to wake up through the night. Continental breakfast does not include any fruit.
