No value for money - so disappointed!

Reviewed By Margit E

We had booked one overnight stay incl breakfast and had reserved the 90 minute access to pool-spa area and two treatments the following day. This was a special occasion for my daughter and myself and we were very much looking forward to staying with you. On arrival (12.30pm), we were informed that rooms would only be available from 3pm so we ventured to Saundersfoot - a short walk down the hill. On return, at 2.30pm we appreciated very much that the rooms were ready. but as this then took a short time to get ready for spa area, our stay in the spa was shortened by 15 mins. Again, fully accepted as COVID still dictates the amount of people in a small space. When we returned to our room at 5pm, we were surprised how dark and hot the main sleeping area was. There there were 5 steps upwards to the bathroom, another dark and extremely warm room, - there was no airflow into the room- despite the open balcony doors. (Resting or sleeping was very uncomfortable due to the warmth of the room) We had booked dinner for 6.30pm and although the staff were so extremely friendly, many things just did not work out: 1. The apertifs ordered for 'before starter' arrived with the starter soup as 'no mint could be found' for my Virgin raspberry drink 2. Basic sides such as potatoes, had to be specially ordered and were charged extra 3. The fish, cod loin, was not well pan-fried and rather tasteless 4. The final bill for food and drink was eye-watering compared to the quality that had been received After our evening walk, we decided to have one drink in the bar and ordered 2 double Gin Tonics which resulted in a bar bill of GBP 37 - amazing. The whole day/evening was supposed to be a family celebration but we were a bit sub-dued and disappointed as the product offering was quite poor. The next morning we had a 9.30am breakfast booking and the disappointment continued: The continental breakfast bar (yoghurts, fruit salad) was nearly empty, the bread selection was minimal, there were no cold meats, no fresh cucumbers and tomatoes - this reminded very much on a budget hotel! We ordered a traditional, cooked English breakfast - but had to leave most of it: the scrambled egg was a pile of glued-together rubber, the hashbrowns must have been warmed a few times and the sausage was pale and without taste. Consequently I ordered a fried egg and noticed that many other guests did the same ....we assumed this was a result of the poor breakfast quality. I am a frequent business traveller and use many top-class hotels in Europe and I was appalled about the food offering of St Brides's kitchen and that there was no value for money for this stay We had booked treatments for Sunday but we cancelled as the whole experience was so stressful and so disappointing. Even when we left and handed our keys in (as early as 10.30am!!), we were not asked about our stay and whether everything went well, customer service from beginning to the end totally unsatisfactory. When cancelling the spa treatments, we were advised that the manager will call us but, no surprise, no action there. A hotel/location like St Brides Spa Hotel should be a memory that lasts full of indulgence, happiness, well being and well feeling - we left in a very agitated status! I truly hope that this was a one-off as I see lots of very good reviews - for me and my daughter it was not the experience that we hoped for ...

The Gower Hotel and Orangery Restaurant

The Gower Hotel sits just back from Saundersfoot vibrant centre - the ideal spot to escape for a touch of peace and quiet, yet close enough to step right into the life of the resort.Comfort and Quality are the key notes of the decor, a theme which extends to each of our 20 en-suite rooms, some of which have balconies and some of which enjoy views across the bay. Nice clean hotel but let down by a rude staff member

Reviewed By KeithTFSA

A clean hotel but my two night stay was let down by a dismissive & rude staff member. There was conflicting information on what time breakfast started and as I’m on business I arrived for breakfast at 07:30 as indicated on the room information. However the breakfast order you are required to complete the night before had an 08:00 start time ? I was told by a person cleaning the bar that breakfast was at 8am with no response when I said that doesn’t work for me. On checkout on day 2 (after breakfast ….and my having to rearrange business meetings to accommodate a later start) I raised this issue with the person taking my money, who said “we’ve recognised there was conflicting information and sorted it” but was dismissive of my complaint to the point of being rude when I stressed that I was a customer paying £206 for a service etc. As a frequent hotel user ….3 or 4 nights each week, not having your concerns/comments/complaints not taken seriously is poor and in todays market quite frankly not good business practice. I’ve informed my office that we should never stay here again.

Great Family Break!

Reviewed By AdventureMelanie

Just got back from a break away at the caravan site with my family and I can say it was a great stay! The staff were very friendly, the facilties were good and the kids entertainer Luke was fab! The kids really enjoyed their stay and were gutted to be leaving! We normally stay at Haven or Park Dean so in comparison this site is very traditional and modest but in my opinion it was much better than the big sites! Will definitely be staying again!

We love staying here. So dog friendly. The owners Roy and Vickie as well as the staff make you so welcome. Nothing is too much trouble. The breakfasts allow for many tastes. The full English is great. We had two evening meals and couldn’t fault them. We will be back soon.

We are situated in Saundersfoot, one of the most attractive places in West Wales. Saundersfoot, with its bustling harbour and vibrant village centre, lies at the foot of a beautiful wooded valley and is blessed with a choice of fine sandy beaches. This well-established resort abounds with water sports, sailing, fishing and boat trips. Low tide exposes a huge crescent of golden sand and enables beach walks to Amroth and Monkstone point. We stayed here Saturday night - we made a last minute booking as our original accommodation had to cancel our booking due to having no power due to the storms. The Harbourlight is run be two very lovely people who clearly work had to keep their guests happy - Steve came out to the car as soon as we arrived and offered to help us with our bags. What a lovely man - he talked us through check in and we were booked into Room 2. The location is perfect - literally steps away from the High Street in Saundersfoot, and the amazing beachfront. We were staying overnight as we had a reservation to eat at Coast, the amazing restaurant in Saundersfoot, which is a 15 minute stroll away. The guesthouse is spotlessly clean and the rooms are nice with everything you need for a great stay. The breakfast before we left yesterday was absolutely gorgeous - beautiful produce cooked really well. If you're looking for a clean, friendly place in a great location, with nice simple rooms at a good price, look no further.

Valley Grove Bungalows

Beautiful bungalow

Reviewed By roserugby3

We visited in June 2021. It is a little way out of Saundersfoot but a 5 minute drive took us straight into the harbour carpark. Although not situated on the caravan park the facilities can be used by the bungalows. The pool, bar and clubhouse and entertainment are a short walk up the road ( If you want them). Everyone was friendly and more than welcoming. The cul de sac is quiet and peaceful apart from an occasional rumble of the train passing. We stayed in the first bungalow on the right painted blue. It was excellent. Very clean, with large modern decorated rooms. There was a large American fridge freezer in the kitchen that had an ice making machine. A coffee machine and every utensil you could need. Beds were extremely comfortable and the bedding clean. Parking is outside and occasionally were more cars than allocated spaces but still plenty of room to manoeuvre. Downside - there is very little outside space. And due to surrounding trees it is shaded. The conservatory at the back of the bungalow was dark and dismal compared to the rest of the property. Would I stay again? yes I would in fact I could live in this bungalow.
