Knysna stands out on South Africa's famed Garden Route thanks to the sandstone cliffs that dramatically separate its tranquil lagoon from the pounding surf of the Indian Ocean. It's also home to the country's largest indigenous forest. Hop aboard a ferry for a ride through the scenic highlights. The Millwood Mines at Jubilee Creek, site of a major gold rush in 1885, provide a picturesque spot for a picnic. Be sure to try some local oysters during the renowned annual festival.

We did the walk this morning with our 2 sons aged 13 and 8. We are fit but our kids are not and they successfully did the walk in over just 2 hours. The forest is just spectacular and the people we met on the walk were kind and friendly. There is only one part that is quite steep but for the rest any able bodied person in good health can do it. Will defenitely be back on a regular basis!

The well-known Elephant Walk at Diepwalle starts and ends at the Diepwalle Forest Station, the "Mecca" of the Knysna forests. The walk offers a number of route options (7km, 8km & 9km). The area is regularly visited by the Knysna elephants but the chance of sighting of these animals is very slight. Currently there are only one elephant left in the forest. The trails are open between 6h00 and 18h00
A must-do encounter with the gentle giants. A reminder of their raw power and quiet strength. Well worth the time and money.

We opted for the 9 km walk and enjoyed it thoroughly. Beautiful trees, with information boards along the way. Walkways are clear and there are lots to appreciate if you don't race along. The last 3 km along the road was not that pleasant. Would rather turn back at the stream next time to take in more of the forest. Birds very shy, saw butterflies and quite a few mushrooms. Will do it again.

Relatively short walk, only 3.6km. The hills and descents are very steep. Be sure to take your camera and eats because when you reach the Homtini River the rewards are satisfying and you will want to spend some time there. The waters of the river are very refreshing and is a great idea to take your swim wear for a dip in the summer.
If you’re wondering where to go to get the best Knysna experience, Dripkelders is the place to go to! A beautiful hike down to the beautiful fresh waters of Knysna, complete with waterfalls and the most thrilling energy from nature.

Nice walk next to the river. Swam at the small waterfall. Nice walk with some water crossings. Shoes will be wet and dirty. ????

The walk follows over 1km of wooden board walks and bridges across streams and is entirely wheelchair friendly and ideal for the elderly wanting to visit the forest. There is a number of wooden benches and tables along the trail to sit, snack, picnic or enjoy your 'padkos'. Water and ablution facilities.
There is something magical about walking through an indigenous forest that is still like it was before humans arrived! It is an added bonus that wooden walkways are provided, and that the distance is short enough for anybody to be able to complete it (including the idea of a shorter or longer option). A beautiful stop to stretch the legs a bit while travelling!
