Vibrant and packed with Victorian mansions, Costa Rica's rowdy, bustling capital was built on the profits of the coffee trade and working "golden bean" plantations still surround the city. Try freshly roasted local beans at Mercado Central. For shinier gold, visit the Museo del Oro. Many renovated landmarks now house stylish hotels. Usually viewed as a hub, rather than a destination, nightlife is concentrated in Spanish village-inspired El Pueblo. Don't miss the elegant 1897 National Theater.

Very personal off the beaten path tours. You don't have to look like a tourist. Get to explore the areas the locals enjoy and be free to go with the flow. Food markets, historic buildings, Train stations and just overall interesting spots. Allow me to share the San Jose I love. No group is too small. I can meet you at your hotel or At the John Lennon statue in Plaza de Las Artes (Chinatown) in front of Iglesia La Soledad. Feel free to call or message me about pricing and group size and duration.I work in real time with texts. If I am available I will do last minute tours. I do not go into details of history. Dates, names of famous historic figures. If this is what you are looking for, I am not your guy. I want you to visit locations with me for the experience. Getting to know the barrios and customs with some interesting trivia and not so touristy pursuits. Enjoy the people , the sites and pet some cats. Smell some flowers. Optomise your city experience. Share my love of this city now

We are Costa Rica's first microbrewery and we began the craft beer movement in the country. We have a Brewpub / Restaurant at the back end of our facility where we offer our world class beers, food and tours.
This place is worth the drive out of San Jose, especially for the Nubes de Cas (wheat beer made with guava)!

Galeria Namu is a fair trade art gallery for local and indigenous artists from Costa Rica and surrounding Central America countries. Established in 1998 at this same location, visitors to Costa Rica's capital city of San Jose can find us easily behind the Holiday Inn (across from Parque Morazan).Knowledge and passion for the artists and their work is what makes a visit to Galeria Namu special; the owner, Aisling, and her son Conall, along with their support staff love to share with visitors the background of the tribe or individual artisans and the remarkable collection of unique and very special pieces available for purchase. For the past 15 years, Galeria Namu has nurtured a relationship with the artists who create folk art, gold and jade replicas, handwoven baskets, originals paintings, tagua carvings and jewelry and much more. Visit the website for hours and a sampling of what you will encounter. Be prepared to catch their enthusiasm for fair trade with these local arts and crafts.
The store provides a wide range of artistic and unique goods from all over Costa Rica and is clearly a place to go if you are interested in authentic pieces which are locally made and support local artists, It is therefore also not necessarily on the cheap side but you can find things in every price range, I really liked that we were given background information on the items we bought and the artists and communities which produced them. It is clearly worse a visit and highly recommended.

30 Species Of Butterflies Flutter Around This Magical Garden.
I just visited the garden and it was really nice. Quite small but worth the visit. The butterfly enclose is beautiful with lovely flowers, plants and pond. So many different kinds of butterflies that you don’t often see in other places. There us also a great walk down to the river through a rainforest which was wonderful. Such beautiful scenery and so peaceful. I would visit again and recommend it highly!
