Reviews on Grill food in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa. Hiking trails and art galleries abound in Stellenbosch, but it's wine that takes center stage. More than 100 wine cellars, most open to the public, surround the oak-lined South African town, and tasting tours operate daily. Winter brings a four-day festival celebrating the local vintages. The historic town center houses the trading-post style shop Oom Samie se Winkel, the Neo-Gothic Moederkerk church, and museums dedicated to toys, military memorabilia, autos and early life on the Cape.

De Volkskombuis restaurant offers great food and ambiance with great contemporary Cape interior, that shows off the beauty of the building's heritage, and some magnificent antiques, in a contemporary way. Some of the dishes on our menu such as the Boland
I understand child friendly is also necessary, but when you are seated at a table in a beautiful garden next to the river and your meal is dominated by small kids running rive, falling, crying, and more it sort of takes away from what you expectation was of a top class meal in a peaceful surrounding after a busy week and just wanting to take a nice lazy break with good food and wine. The alternative was to sit inside where there is no garden view. I just don't get why parents leave the baby-sitting to other guests - I saw one child setting out to test the limits of a low placed electrical light that can swivel - he would probably not have survived a bad shock as was below the age of 2. Young trees were bent over and the flower beds became a playground. So yes, if you want your kids to have a great time - this is the place to go!The food was good, oxtail would benefit by heating the pot and its lid (was icecold) as the plate one eats on is tiny, so the food needs to be kept warm - but it was delicious. The Chicken Pie incredibly tasty and highly recommended. Excellent coffee! Not allowed to take you own wine and we were requested to take it back to our vehicle. Recommend you find out if a large family has booked near your table if you want to sit outdoors. There is a fireplace indoors.

Popped in for a cocktail and some snacks. What a pleasant surprise. From Carmen our waitress right through to paying was fast, friendly and efficient. Drink was great and the food warm, fresh and just enough. Happy hour from 16h30 an absolute bargain to boot. Will go again soon.

Had dinner at Guardian Peak tonight. Good atmosphere, very good and friendly service. Wines only from Guardian Peak and family, but all available at cellar prices and by the glass. Had the best West coast mussels ever and the Braised Beef Rib was excellent. Bread was fresh and very good. Nice fireplace and great service, pricing fair. 4,5 stars.

The restaurant at Jordan Wine Estate Stellenbosch did themselves proud last night, with a fabulous 5 course pure plant based dinner. The two mains, as seen, included herb infused quinoa with cruciferous vegetables, and stuffed zucchini on a bed of a delicious tomato puree, with smoked brussels and olives. The two starters included a veg wonton in a broth, with sprouts and shoots, and a pea puree base with beetroot in various guises. While the sorbet didn't live up to the indulgent heaven of the previous dishes, it did end the meal on a lighter note. My only negative is that at this point in history, pure plant based options shouldn't be a thing - why aren't they on the menu? (Anyone can eat plant based options, so one can easily ditch the vegetarian offering) Excellent service all round, and the pumpkin seed pesto with my breads was very good indeed!

Relaxed dining, South African seafood, steaks, lamb, duck, venison, pizza, great wines and desserts. Caters for vegetarians, gluten free etc.
Excellent service by attentive waiter , loved the ambiance .Looked forward to the karoo lamb but rather underwhelmed therefore disappointed.Nicely presented but lamb itself warm rather than hot and potato wedges tasted like yesterdays potato warmed up .Thank you for the review. Apologies that the lamb was not hot enough. Not sure what went wrong with the pan fried potatoes - we prepare them fresh every shift. You did not raise any of this with the owner when he checked on your table? He could have corrected any issues immediately then....Please e-mail us on [email protected] to discuss this further. We hope to welcome you back soon and "wow" you with not only the ambiance and service, but our great food too.
