Penrith's AWARD WINNING independently owned bookshop in an 18th century building the center of town. Children's books are downstairs (accessible for prams) & grown up books upstairs. The shop is also open on Sundays 11:00 - 4:30 during the summer. We used to have a small vegan coffee shop, but this closed in September 2015 to make room for more books. It had excellent reviews here, so I'm sorry to disappoint fans, but in the end it really wasn't viable and expanding the bookshop made more sense & the book side of the business continues to thrive with a huge amount of local support (for which - thank you everyone!)

Traditional toy shop stocking a wide range of mainly wooden toys. The shop is an Aladdin's Cave of time tested toys some with there origins dating back several century's. The owner is a time served carpenter and joiner and makes many of the toys on display, specialising in Toy Farms, Castles, Dolls Houses, Noah's Arks to mention just a few of the many items on display. See into his workshop through the viewing window in the shop. Bring a 20p coin with you and watch the 'The Toy Works Train' run around the top of the display area.

Est’d 2007, Beckside Books is a 2nd hand and antiquarian bookshop tucked away in a central but quiet part of the historic town of Penrith, N.Cumbria, just 5 minutes from the Lake District national park. As well as a very broad range of very reasonably priced books, we also have a large selection of maps and some photos, postcards and cigarette cards. Browsers are more than welcome. Take your time and relax a while on our new sofas with a coffee or one of a selection of teas as you gaze out over the tranquil church garden and ponder the words at your lap. You can also find one of the biggest ranges of BRAX FEEL GOOD which includes specialist trousers, jeans and everyday wear for both men and women. After having up to 60 alpacas at one time, Joy has now stopped breeding but we still have a small herd of alpacas and 2 miniature donkeys which you are more than welcome to go and view in their paddock.
