My family and I headed over for what we had read was a short walk/hike - you park a couple blocks away in a residential area and then start out on what appears to be a very easy trail. About the time you get warmed up - and the first part of the trail could be easily handled by anyone of any age, in any physical condition - you come to a crossroads where you have a decision to make to proceed. If you choose “difficult”, be prepared to climb through a canyon, that is very narrow and very steep in some places. I have relatively short legs, I’m 5’9”, and one time, I had to have someone push me from behind up through one ledge to another. Agree with the other reviewers that this is a great suburban hike, and can be as difficult as you can take.

The bridge over the train tracks has a staircase leading to Cedros Design District. This isn't any more than 1/2 mile walk up from Pacific Coast Highway and Del Mar's Dog Beach. The walk/bike trail starts under the Solana Beach and Rail Trail archways. This walk all by itself is worth taking, just for the walk. The Design District is only maybe a couple of blocks long and ends at the Village on Cedros mall (where the farmer's market is found on weekends). Two of the big warehouse-style indoor vendor booths are SOLO and Lotus (across the street from each other). For us, it's all about the creative public art we get to enjoy along both the Rail Trail path and along the Cedros Design District walk.

This is a great family beach with easy ramp access. There is ample parking available and a lots of local eateries. There is also a cliff overlook for beautiful sunset views.

We tried the lightest beers, the Blonde and American Pilsner. Both refreshing and hit the spot early afternoon, after a hike at Torrey Pines. The outside patio area was busy with beer making in process and dog friendly. Talked with a local, enjoyed a few pretzels ???? and headed south to La Jolla. Really enjoyed it.

For fine art photography in Solana Beach, Aaron Chang's art features world famous surf and ocean photography, so his gallery on beachfront Highway 101 is hard to beat. The collection features Aaron's high impact, large format photographic prints of waves, surf shots and many other exotic images collected from a lifetime of traveling, as well as recycled eco-art, surfboard art and fountain fish tank sculptures. From perfect waves in Tahiti, waterfalls in Bali and the deserts of Southern Africa, gallery visitors experience these pieces in a larger-than-life format and are treated to a visual feast of tranquility, inspiration, energy and excitement. Voted Best Art Gallery in Solana Beach 5 years running, Aaron Chang's Ocean Art Gallery is a must visit while in town.
I have perused the Aaron Chang Gallery many times over the years, and this past Christmas, I decided to purchase some of his art for our home as a family gift. His work captures amazing moments of natural beauty that fit so well with our Southern California decor. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming, even if you are just there to enjoy the beautiful images instead of purchasing them. Mr. Chang also worked with my daughter’s second grade class for a unique and inspiring art project, so I was happy to finally bring home some of his magic.
