About a 25-mile drive southeast of Siena in the rolling hills of Tuscany’s Crete Senesi region, San Giovanni d'Asso is home to just a few hundred people. The highlight is the 12th-century castle, which now houses town offices. Directly opposite the castle is Villa San Giovanni, complete with a hanging garden, which is rentable by the week. The town is home to two lovely old churches, San Giovanni Battista and San Pietro in Villore. Every November, San Giovanni d'Asso holds a Truffle Festival.

Contemporary and traditional cuisine meet in this historic establishment with a magnificent panoramic view of the Val d'Orcia
Positives:Excellent serviceView near the window is wonderfulWine list has a wide variety of regional selections, and the advice was knowledgeablePresentation of dishes was niceNegative:The food. Each dish we tried offered a creative approach to preparation, but the overall results were only average to good, nothing excellent. There are other places in town where one can get equal or better flavors at less than half the price.I can only think that the top reviews given by others were driven by their need to assign high marks to a meal that was expensive.

First of all, I want to say that the location is extraordinary. You sit at your table and you look at the wonderful countryside. But you pay a high "coperto" for.Secondly, the menu contains very basic dishes (no creativity, no particular skills). The prices are once again high.Thirdly, the main problem is the service: slow, inattentive and in some cases rude (especially the tall blonde woman).

Family, Farm Restaurant & Cooking School
If you are planning to be in Montalcino and love great food and warm hospitality, make a reservation here for the most wonderful lunch. Currently serving lunch and also hosting cooking classes. From the minute you arrive Alessandro gives you the biggest and most enthusiastic welcome. And his wife, Manuela is an amazing chef who creates delicious and beautiful dishes. Along with other family members, they run a a real farm where the majority of the ingredients are from. Six of us dined here our last day in Montalcino and if we came the first we would have returned many times. We adored everything about Locanda Dametra. Bravo to this family for creating such a special experience.

Stylish restaurant in the center of Pienza
This is a professional, elegant, modern-Tuscan restaurant, but I am not sure it justifies the price. We had here our most expensive meal in a 12-day trip in central Tuscany. Now, it was indeed a very good meal: delicious antipasti (zucchini carpaccio, burrata, mixed salad), terrific lamb chops, very good pasta amatriciana and gnocchi, two yummy desserts and a good bottle of white wine. But at more than 50 Euros per person (excluding tip), you can probably do better here. Also, there was an irritating incident with the wine. At the beginning of the evening, I asked for - and was promptly given - a taste of two white wines, both offered at 20 Euros a bottle. I chose one of them, and we were served a bottle of what was presumably the wine I chose. The bill included a bottle of another white wine altogether, at 30 Euros. I commented on this and was told by the waiter: but this is the wine you just drank! I insisted it was not the wine I chose, and (to their credit) they changed the bill accordingly with no further argument. But it did leave a somewhat bitter taste. Still, a very good dinner.

Just wanted a quick pit stop meal, and saw this small place with its interesting menus on chalkboards outside, and a table in the street opened up so we pounced, and were glad we did. The waiter had good English, nd we were able to chat a little. The wine was tempting but as I was driving I stuck to Water. My wife had a very good Duck Salad, good flavour and good portion, and I had an anchovy and pesto Bruschetta. Really tasty. Recommended

We were lucky enough to eat here for four nights while staying at the Villa, the food is absolutely stunning and the service (from Laura) is incredibly attentive. Still daydreaming about the Pappa al Pomodoro and the Fiorentina Steak :)

I promised to come again when in the region ... so we did . As it was a Friday evening we made a reservation for an early start . The chef is passionated by his profession and and passes this on to the customer . When it is a full house you need some patience but it is worth it . We had the first oil of the season yummy , could not be fresher and tastier . The chef explains in English or Italian what he proposes and it is goooood . We try to go for the plates that are from the region and unknown to us and never disappointed . C U next time Gianluca .
