Madame, the owner, provides a professional, no-nonsense service at this interesting, memorable restaurant in an otherwise forgettable town. Food is good, the Boeuf Bourguinon from the day menu (written on tall black boards) was excellent. The steak âMarchand-de-Vinâ was a mediocre piece of Entrecote, the red wine marinated shallots were nice. The Frites are excellent, I think they are even fresh, not previously frozen which would be great, in todayâs restaurant environment with the majority of the food being from a can or bag a rarity. Very good, albeit too salty were the pan-fried potatoes. Many people were eating big salads with tartines, they seem to be a restaurant speciality. This is a somewhat cramped, small place with small tables, small circulation spaces, not to everybodyâs liking, right at the edge of being uncomfortable. In retrospect I think outside seating on the sidewalk is the better choice. We will give it another try very soon.

Pizzeria Da Iolanda existe since 1969 in Saint-Avold. This is warm and welcoming family. The chef serves grilled meat over a wood fire, pasta, salads, and more than 35 extra thin pizza.
On a business trip we went for a quick pizza for diner. The restaurant was almost empty, but still the service was slow. The pizzas were average, ok , but the dough and crust were nothing compared to a real italian pizza. Nothing to stimulate a return.

Stopped in the village of St-Avold after visiting the American Cemetery nearby. This place was great! More modern decor but very friendly staff and helpful when we were not as fluent in French as we should have been for the region. The food was excellent. Plat du jour (sausage and pasta) was well worth price and others had a tasty lasagna, salad and salad with crepe were all complemented as very good. Service was quick (although we were in no hurry) and the prices were very reasonable. We would recommend to anyone passing through the region.

Had a wonderful lunch at La Batisse on Armistice Day when very few restaurants were open in St. Avold. Service was excellent, and the good was really, really good. Introduced my daughter to crisy, delicious "cuisse de grenouilles". Very innovative cuisine - basil creme glace with the salmon. We'll definitely go there again. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We arrived without a reservation just after the restaurant opened at 19.00 and were offered a choice of tables. By 20.00 it was full. We both had foie gras followed by rognons de veau both of which were excellent. Our waitress was really good, very efficient with a nice sense of humour. Our meal was washed down with a bottle of local wine, Pinot Gris. At a total cost of â¬99 we thought it was good value for the standard of food provided.
