We called into the village of Kulmbach to visit the Bayerisches Brauereimuseum and next to it was Monchshof Brauhaus. It was very busy with locals enjoying lunch and beer. We ordered the Weiner Schnitzel and fries along with a salad. It was a very big meal; the meat was a little dry, but it was a pleasant meal. The beer was cold and enjoyable.

After climbing what seemed like an endless steep hill I made it to the castle & found the "pretty courtyard" with tables & chairs sitting in the sun. I quickly realised they belonged to the Burgschänke (Burgcafé) so my family & I decided to have a drink & a rest. There was seating available both inside & out but with the glorious weather that day we all wanted to bask in the sun. We did ask the café staff if we could move one of the tables from the shade to the sun which he agreed to. Beers were all very cheap & they even offered a shandy which tasted delicious. Wine & soft drinks were also available as well as some snacks/cake.The café is in a great location as you really do need a drink & a rest after reaching the top of the castle. I would highly recommend calling in for a drink & enjoying the scenery of the courtyard.

THe anti pasta was excellent, the pasta dishes were all home made. The tuna sauce on veal was unusual. but it is a genuine Italian restaurant, run by the owners.
Wow!

After touring the Plassenburg we came to the center of Kulmbach and spotted the great outdoor sitting area of Roberts Cafe. A very friendly waitress promptly brought us menus and took our drink order. The selection was great with both local and international dishes. We had the Franconian Bratwurst, which came with excellent, home made sourkraut, and the chicken breast baked with tomato & mozzarella, served with pasta. Everything was delicious! To round out the sunny afternoon we had their ice cream creations for dessert. Spaghetti Eis, Amareno Cup and Strawberry "Stampf". We loved everything!

Visited the restaurant with colleagues. Very good food and beer. Cheap prices. If you want to visit this place at the weekend it's better to make a reservation although there always seems to be space for a stranger :-)

We picked the nr1 place on TA - there may actually be "better" restaurants in Kulmbach. But this one is very friendly and relaxed, right in the centre of town. Practically zero English spoken. Limited menu, but everything obviously fresh and cooked on site. Portions excessively large by many peoples standards. Very low prices by anyone's measurement, absolutely outstanding value for money in modern Europe! A very nice place to visit if you're hungry and feeling relaxed.
