The restaurant lays on what used to be the Union's Auditorium (therefore Sindicato = Union) of the textile factory La Constancia, one of the biggest in the whole Latin-America at the end of the XIX century. The restaurant still keeps the decor of an auditorium, and all the tables are laid out on the lower floor where the stalls used to be, the bar is on the upper level where the balconies were. Food is excellent, focusing mainly on Mexican food, but features also international and stakes. The portions are not too big, therefore easy to have an entree, soup/salad, a main dish and finish with a delicious desert. It's one of the best value restaurants in Puebla, as main dishes range between $8 and $12 USD.It's a little far away from downtown, really more on the entrance to the City, but if you are entering or exiting by car, is a great place.

This restaurant has a split personality. And a split dining room to go with it. There's a restaurant/bar side that looks a little more laid back. And there's a refined, modern, more dressy side. I dined in the fancy side. The servers were attentive and well trained. They doted on us and were very polite. Our host chose for us as we indicated that we wanted traditional Puebla food primarily. Everything comes with nacho chips, warm tortillas and an assortment of salsas with varying heat intensities. Chilupas with roasted crickets to start put us in the right frame of mind. If you get past the idea that they're crickets, you'll probably eat them all like we did. The worms we had a little later on were not as tasty, but good on a totilla too. (But they look like the worms they are). The food was good. It kept coming. Hot off the stove.Mezcal was of course the drink of choice. Smooth. Not to be taken by the shot, but sipped with orange and chile powder. I don't know the prices as I didn't pay. But it looked expensive.

The food was good, if overpriced. The service was indifferent. We ordered an expensive bottle of champagne, as well as appetizers and dessert, but the waiter could barely be bothered to ask how we were enjoying our meal. There was a private party using the outside and roof, so we weren't able to go up to the roof bar, which was the main reason we went. We had been at the hotel earlier in the day to ask about reservations, and to inquire about the roof deck. They never told us there was a private party that night.Very disappointed.Dear Mr. rshindc, Iâm so sorry to hear that , you are totally write, but sometime we could no forecast event to let our guest and Friends know about it . When you stay at the hotel, we generally advise our future guest that they will be and event.Hope that i could see you back at Hotel La Purificadoras and we could enjoy the bar with a nice tequila or a marguerita.Sincerely yours Federico SpadaHost of the HouseHotel La Purificadora

Maiz Prieto is the gastronomic dialogue that unites two cultures and flavors: Puebla-Oaxaca, this through a dining experience in an environment aesthetically care for both its textures as for their sounds.
The service was so good, very polite and friendly staff. The place is nice, and we were lucky cause they move to another table at the balcony with street view. But unfortunately the food wasn't that we spect. Portions are small, my ceviche was tasty and spicy, but a lot cucumber and pineapple and no many shrimps. The solomillo was ok but nothing surprising, the presentation was very simple, not tasty and small portion. The creme brule and corn, I have to say that's not similar at all, basically the consistency. The flavour is ok, but the texture is totally different. The portion is bigger that all the mains, extremely cold, and to many dehydrated banana and apple.

Passing in the street you might entirely miss this excellent restaurant. Nelhua is close to the Zocalo but the food is way better than any of the more obvious Zocalo restaurants. We went twice. Mexican food but with fine dining creativity - their chef really knows what s/he is doing and the service is very attentive. It gets such excellent reviews that we expected to find it full but there were few others there - was this because late January is low tourist season, or because no-one knows it is there? It is in a beautiful old courtyard building too. Tip: Avoid the open air restaurants on the Zocalo itself - not only is the food indifferent and the fluorescent-lighted ambiance unpleasant, but you are also constantly assailed by street performers and sellers when you really just want to eat quietly.

This restaurant looks like the beloved project of someone who is passionate about this business. There's plenty of good ideas around, in the décor and in the menu. The pricing is very reasonable. The service is attentive and does a good job. However, I think there's still some points that can be improved: on a Friday night, the place was not too crowded. We were seated at a table upstairs with too much light, it didn't feel quite private. The food was good, not great. We ordered tostadas de pulpo, some were made with tortilla, some with chicharrón. The mushrooms were good. I had the lamb as a main, it was good but could have been a bit hotter. I am sure in a few months, fixing some aspects, this can be an excellent place.

Contemporary regional food.
We had high hopes based on Tripadvisor and maybe our palette isn't in sync but we found the dishes we tried mostly lacking something essential - except the portobello mushroom burger and salads, which were delicious. The chopped steak burger was very tough and the risotto and chicken was. Truly off balance. The risotto was too salty and the chicken, bland. For starters, the tempura greens had little taste except for the friedness, and the corn soup was too savory. Again, it could be our palettes aren't oriented to the salty and savory flavors that infuse the dishes. Also the prices are about 2x what we've paid so far in Mexico so we didn't feel it was a value. The staff is incredibly friendly so we really hoped it would be a wonderful meal. Hopefully it was an off day.
