Reviews on Contemporary food in Opua, North Island, New Zealand. Opua is a locality in the Bay of Islands, in the sub-tropical Northland Region of New Zealand. It is notable as the first port for overseas yachts arriving in the country after crossing the Pacific Ocean. In the original 1870s plans for the town, it was named Newport. The town of Paihia is nearby, and the small settlement of Te Haumi is in between.

Linda and her team did a magnificent job catering for approximately 80 Pax for a day time BBQ function the day after our wedding at a personal residence. With people dropping in and out at sporadic times, they did very well to manage so that fantastic food was available at all times. They took the stress out of the day completely. Being in the hospitality industry myself, I have unreasonably exacting standards :) and Linda and her team exceeded these! Great food, easy to work with and well priced- would definitely work with them again. The Gourmet Kitchen loves hearing we "exceeded your expectations", thank you! It can be a challenge working in a small space with so many people, children, pets, etc but we pride ourselves on being extremely organised and attention to detail to overcome this. Our satisfaction was seeing your guests having a great time, complimenting the food and yourself and your new wife looking relaxed and happy. :-)

Beautiful setting, awesome staff, everyone was so friendly and helpful. I would come back again just for that. However I ordered Buffalo Chicken Wings x 6 in a spicy sauce, and they were. However instead of getting 6 Buffalo wings I received chicken nibbles. They tasted lovely but not what I was expecting for me first meal of the day at 1.30pm.Hello KarenI am so pleased to hear the nice things you have said about our restaurant! I am sorry that you were unsatisfied with our chicken nibbles. Upon review of the menu, I can confirm that it states 'nibbles' and not specifically 'wings'. That being said, I think wings would be a great addition to our menu and I will put in a request to our chefs!Feel free to contact me should have any other suggestions or concerns at [email protected]

The food was excellent and so was the ambience. It has an elegant indoor dining room and also has outdoor seating. There are views of the harbor from both. We had the tasty very fresh flounder [$37] which is a large whole fish served with bok choy and pomegranate seeds. We also got the fish of the day [$39] which comes with roast potatoes, carrots and courgettes and a sauce. I recommend the roasted vegetables [$9.50] which were delicious. The rocket salad [$9.50] was okay.It claims to be the oldest New Zealand licensed restaurant.

My husband and I went here for dinner as it was right next door to where we were staying. The food was really nice although the service was a little sub par. They weren't busy but the service was quite slow. We would eat there again as the food was nice.

Legends Restaurant at the Paihia Ex-Services Club has gone under new management on 8 April 2019. Our new menu is now up and running including all of the old favourites, new vegetarian meals as well as a great burger menu! We are open daily from 5pm and cl
We decided to eat here as we were attending a hypnotists show, the food is definitely better than our last visit but they ran out of vegetables and the salad bar was very uninspiring, 2 lots a lettuce and a potato salad, not very good , used to have beetroot, egg salad and pasta as well, the veggies were good when replenished but they need to keep them stocked up and hot , the owner is obviously making a huge effort and we will give it another go but on a less busy nightThank you for your feedback, it's reviews like this that allow us to improve. You're right that we're making a huge effort, we have changed the structure of the kitchen and recently updated the menu a little - but don't worry, all of the favourites are still available! On that night it was quite busy and you're right, we did run low particularly with the hot veggie bar - multiple times. We have looked at the issue with replenishing items and have changed the person responsible for keeping the kitchen up to date as to what is needed, so far it is working out well. In regards to the variety of the salad bar we're making efforts to bring different things back such as beetroot and increase the sauce/dressing options - currently we have a balsamic vinaigrette and wholegrain mustard dressing made in house along with our regular sauces, we're also making more prepared salads like egg & potato, pasta and coleslaw. Items do change daily depending on availability so it is possible on a busy weekend we may run out of a popular item but we're doing our best to have a little extra on-hand - particularly items that can last a little longer in the fridge or dry store. I'm sure next time you visit these issues will be a thing of the past. Thank you again for your helpful feedback, it has helped us make Legends Restaurant a better dining option and I look forward to seeing you next time.
